Cervical Check

Sooooo sorry in advance if this has been asked before! I feel like it has, but I swear I did a search and didn't find it on our board!

I put in a call to my doctor and am waiting to hear back.  Had my first cervical check yesterday at 38w.  Since then I've had some bright red spotting and today what feels like a very light period and light cramps. I know spotting/bleeding can be normal after these checks, but I don't know what the cut off for "normal" is and when I should be concerned.  From what I've read, the blood is usually dark or brown, and mine is bright red, but not a lot.  Curious if any of you have experienced this too?  I'll update when I hear back from my doctor but thank you in advance!

  • Thanks @DebateThis! You're right, the bleeding causes a lot of worry.
  • @kamakaziartist - thanks! Waiting to hear back from doc.
  • My doc said the first 24 hours the blood would be bright red or pink and then would switch to brownish.

I did not spot, but had light period type cramping the night after my first check. It went away pretty quickly for me.

I would think you're still in the normal range, but glad you called your doc to check in.

  • I had bright spotting after a cervical check with DD1.  If it's still going strong after today I'd probably call.

  • I've had cramping the day/evening of.. no spotting just discharge which I thought might have been parts of mucous plug... but ya never know...

  • Thanks everyone! Still no call back from the doctor :(  I left a detailed message so I'm hoping I was filed under "not urgent/call back when they have time" which hopefully means I shouldn't worry!
  • I've had two cervix checks and both times caused me to have period like cramping for the rest of the day. I never bled, but the doctor said It could happen and not to worry if it does. She never specified how much bleeding or for how long would be normal though.
  • I had my first check last week. I spotted for 2 days albeit very lightly but I also had terrible cramps afterwards too. I ended up really uncomfortable down there all weekend and slept with a pack of frozen peas on my hoohaa at one point.
  • Oh and I should add that my cervix is whiny brat whenever it gets checked. I always have a LOT of bleeding (like, enough that during two checks I thought the MW broke my water bc it was a gush and they wouldn't let me look down til they'd cleaned me up a bit) but I don't think that's the norm, but it's still within the range of not a big deal. Just unnerving.

  • Update! I had to call the doctor's office back right before they closed since I hadn't received a call back. The nurse said it was normal and wasn't concerned, but she'd call me in the morning and if I was still bleeding she'd tell the doctor and get her opinion to see if I need to come in or not. Thanks for everyone's replies :)
