House temp

Someone might have asked this a while back, but I can't find it.

DH likes to keep the house on 68 in the winter. I think it's too cold and am currently cocooned under the covers. He claims it's for utility savings, but he also keeps it too cold IMO in the summer.

How cool do you keep your house, and have you noticed it affecting LO's sleep? He's actually sleeping fine, and I think our room is a bit draftier than his, but I just don't want him to be too cold.

Re: House temp

  • Our house usually runs between 68-71. Right now we have everything switched off (love Cali fall weather) and leave our windows cracked at night. The coldest LOs room gets is around 68 and she never seems to mind or be affected. She wears cotton footie pajamas.

  • Our house is set at 69. Until my body gets used to it, I am huddled under a blanket with a hoodie. But after a few weeks, I am good to go.

  • 69 at night and LO has a space heater but 71 in the morning and 70 evening
  • We're around 72-73 in the winter and 75-76 in the summer

  • We keep ours set at 70-72 in the winter.  Windows open the rest of the year.
  • 68-72 is the recommended sleeping range for SIDS protection, and I read somewhere that you actually sleep better when it is a little cool.  And have you guys seen this?   https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-21537988

Our house is currently ranging between 67 and 71 at night, and she's in fleece PJs and a short-sleeved onesie.  We don't have central heat, so I am considering getting a space heater for her room since it's bound to get colder soon.

  • We keep the house at 70 at night all year long. During the day we let the house warm up to whatever it gets up to; which now until the about middle of summer doesn't get higher then 75-78 in the house. We do keep the ceiling fan on in the living room to keep the air moving during the day during the summer. We always have the ceiling fan on in our room.
I dress LO in long jammies and socks with a fleece blanket over him. He's not ever cold when he wakes up.

  • Representing the north coast, it gets down to 65 in H's room at night, which is too damn cold. He's in fleece footsie pjs and a fleece sleep sack at present, and I may add an A+A blanket later tonight. I talked to DH about keeping the overnight heat at 68, instead.

  • We usually leave house at 76 in the winter, dropping to 70 at night. (summer is consistently at 72) However, we are dealing with some sort of allergy for Vincent---not sure what yet. Allergist told me tonight his room should not be more than 67 degrees at night. I'm thinking my poor boy will be chilly! She tells me babies sleep better that way. I'm not so sure I agree with this? Maybe 70 will make me feel better?

This is how we try and keep it. We have gas and wood heat though so it's difficult to regulate sometimes.  I think 70 would be ok but to me 67 sounds so chilly! I've read ( like pp said ) they sleep better in cooler temps, but A has woken up and I believe he was chilly so I keep it warmer. 70-75 when I can. My LO isn't interested much in blankets half the time, so that's another reason I like it a lil warmer.

  • We just switched to heat and it's set at 68 right now, but I was telling DH that I'd like to keep it at 70. It's not that cold here yet but when it gets colder (and the house gets cooler) I think I'll bump it up to 70.

  • I live in Central New York  we keep it at 68 no matter how cold it gets out side. I have read that they sleep better when it is cooler too.

  • Back home in TN we kept it at 68-70 year-round.  However, in TX we have it set to 74-76 right now.  It's so darn hot for me, but there's no way we're paying for our AC to be set to 68.  We just have the ceiling fans on high in every room, as well as a box fan in the boys' room.
