My OB told me the same thing & said I could have a breakfast bar. I failed & had to go back for the 3 hour (4 blood draws) not fun! If I were to ever have to have it again I would fast. I passed my 3 hour test.

My first OB told me not to fast and I failed and had to do the 3 hour, which sucked. My OB with kid #2 told me to fast from midnight until the test (like 9am) for the one hour and I passed. If I did it again, I would fast again.
I didn't know I was going to have my test the day I had it. I had a bagel sandwich for breakfast and a bunch of chewy sweet tarts before mine. I passed just fine. I wouldn't advise the sweet tarts though. I probably would have been sick if I hadn't had any protein and if I knew about it I would have had an omlet or something.
If she said not to fast, then I'd make sure to eat something. I think you're supposed to eat a "regular" breakfast, without a lot of sugar, like eggs and toast, peanut butter, etc.
I was supposed to fast both times, I took it early for my MFM and had to fast for 12 hours, no food or water. For my OB, I had to fast from midnight on, no food but I could have water. Passed both.
I ate what I'd normally eat - I think w/ DD2 it was yogurt and some kind of bar, maybe a piece of fruit. DD1's was at the end of the day so I'd eaten breakfast, lunch, snacks, etc.
Isn't this early AG?
yes it is because I am AMA:( I will take it again at 28 weeks.

No fun. My first was ten pounds and had blood sugar issues so they think I had undiagnosed gd. I had to take the test like four times. That drink is gross. You have my sympathies.

Welcome to my world. I had to take it bc I had a odd result on my AFP test and GD was one of the things that could cause it. Yuck, the horrible drink twice without failing either is just mean.
a pregnant friend of mine was allowed to eat m&m's instead of drinking that stuff. i'll take that test any day! maybe if it was served cold it would be a little more tolerable.
You mean it's not cold for some of you? Oh hell no.
nope it was room temp. it was red (i guess they have different flavors?) i ate very healthy while pregnant so i was not used to the sugar & i felt nauseated afterwards. though recently i had a kid size apple & eve juice box (no sugar added, healthy as you can get for juice) & i felt so sick afterwards.
i was given a list of foods i could eat that morning. i think i had toast and eggs.
They told me not to eat before the test unless I felt sick. They also sent the drink home with me at the visit before. I was supposed to drink it an hour before my apt and the make sure the nurse knew that when I signed in so they would make sure to test me on time. I liked that I could drink it at home and not sit in the waiting room for an hour
I ate both times. I remember the first time, it was in early afternoon so I think I just had some chicken beforehand. With my second it was first thing in the morning and I had an apple and a biscuit with butter and honey (didn't realize I was going to be taking the test that day or I would have skipped the honey). But I easily passed both times, second time around my score was really low, strangely enough with all the sugar, it was a 69.

I was told to eat like normal before mine but to avoid anything sweet. FWIW mine was in the middle of the afternoon so I ate breakfast and lunch like normal. I don't remember exactly what I ate but probably something higher protein and not a lot of carbs. I passed no problem.
Eta: I think if I'd had to drink that stuff on an empty stomach I'd have been sick! The drink itself wasn't terrible just very sweet! I had the Orange one and it tasted like overly sweet flat Orange soda.
Yeah, the orange one isn't bad, I mean I wouldn't drink it voluntarily, but not totally disgusting. The second time around they gave me a lime one, that really was gross!
My doctor told me to eat normally and not try to eat something specific to try and pass the test. I don't remember what I ate with DS but with DD I had peanut butter toast
