I'm looking for moms that have gone through this. How sedated was your DC? Do you find out the results fairly soon? How long was DC out of it? Were you in the hospital long?
Our son had a CAT scan when he was 3 months. I had such anxiety about it but it was really fine. They sedated him and I was there to watch and felt much better that I did. Recovery was hard because he was crying so much but I fed him and he was happy to eat and then he calmed down but yours is a bit older than mine. We got a DVD of the scan (which I don't like to see though) a few days later.
My son had to fast over night. So needless to say he was dehydrated and they could not find a vein. He must have gotten poked at least 7 times. It was horrible. Other than that, everything else went fine. He woke right up and asked for something to drink. We had to stay for at least 45 min to make sure he kept his drink down.
My son was sedated for 45 min. But as soon as the MRI was done, he woke right up.
Both of my girls were sedated for their MRI's and it went really well. They got an IV and then drifted off to sleep. The MRI took about an hour and then I got to go in when they were waking them up. They were really sleepy all the rest of that day. We were only at the hospital for about 2 1/2 hours total and got to go home! HTH

DS just had an MRI at 11 months. He was allowed to have breastmilk four hours before hand (if they've given you restrictions and not mentioned that breastmilk has a shorter window than formula and you're breastfeeding, you should ask about that). I held him while they put an iv in his foot and until he fell asleep (only about five minutes). I was able to go with him into the MRI room (had to remove anything metal, etc.) - I couldn't see him while he was in the MRI machine but could see the monitor showing his vital signs, which made me feel better. When he was done, we went back to the recovery room with DH where they let DS wake up slowly. After he was awake, they let us leave as soon as he'd had some apple juice and graham crackers. He was a little out of it that night (he's trying to walk and looked like a little drunk man) but totally fine the next a.m.
My DD had an outpatient MRI in October. At our Children's Hospital they usually try to sedate with a suppository until the child is about age 3 or 4 and then they use an IV method. The suppository was nice since they didn't have to stick her and they say they wake up quicker vs the IV method. My DD fell alseep within 5 minutes of getting the medicine and woke up as soon as they pulled her out of the machine. We were allowed to stay in the room with her the whole time. We got the results the next day by calling our neurology clinic where she is a patient. In total we were in the hospital about 2-3 hours.
ds had one at 8 months. he was allowed to nurse until 5 hours before the procedure and was given the anesthesia through an iv in his foot. he fell right to sleep and after about an hour in the machine, we were brought back in to wake him up. he was very groggy and weak for about an hour afterwards, but he nursed in the car before we left and fell asleep. he was still a little tired for the rest of the day, but it wasn't terrible.
our appointment was at 1, they didn't put him to sleep until almost 2-it was awful to have to make a fasting baby wait longer! we left by about 330. the results were given to me on a cd rom that i looked at even though i can't read it but was faxed to both my neurologist and ped in day or so.
