coworker comment

pregnant coworker: how much weight have you gained so far?

me: um... 11 lbs....

pregnant coworker: omg! You are only supposed to gain 2-5 lbs in the first trimester! You have already gained 11 lbs.

#1 never ask a woman, pregnant or not, how much weight she has gained

#2 do not proceed to lecture a woman on the amount she had gained

#3 you have a vagina and are a STM too! I should not have to explain to you rules #1 & #2

It took every ounce of self control I had not to respond rudely and not to cry

  • Wow, so rude of her! You really wouldn't think a woman, especially one that has been pregnant, would think it proper to ask those things.

If anyone asked me about my weight gain, I'd probably say, "uhh, I'm not sure!" and hope they got the hint, heh.

  • That is incredible rude of her. You never ask anyone about their weight gain. Ever!! It's just a rule of civilized society.
  • I definitely learned my lesson not to answer that question. I was just so stunned she even asked it.

  • Wow. She'll get some inappropriate question asked of her soon. It happens to everyone. BTW I am around 11 pounds too.
  • Wow, what a bitch! I think I've already gained almost 15lbs, if that makes you feel better :)

  • I gained like half my pregnancy weight in my first trimester last time and looked 5 months pregnant at 2 months along. And then I barely gained any in the last trimester. Everyone is different :)
  • Some people just don't think before they open their big mouths :( sorry you had to deal with that. Why do people think that's any of their business???
  • She deserves a throat punch.

  • Haha. Yeah I'm in the same boat as you. I've put on something like 11 lbs. I think it has started to slow down but oh man am I in the "feeling fat" stage! No real bump yet, but I feel it rising up (half way-ish to my belly button) and soon it will be popping out...

  • I gained 11 lbs, too! I hope your coworker gets hemoroids! ;)
  • Serenia's response wins as most appropriate in this case.  That girl sounds like a real wench, or she is completely clueless.

  • My coworker and I are both expecting.  We have an ongoing list of things that are inappropriate and should not be said to a pregnant lady.  We have had some doozies!  One person said "Whoa, you're getting fat!!"  My coworker doesn't even look pregnant!  It's all in her belly.  I can't even imagine what they'll be saying about me!  This is #3 and things aren't as toned as they were with my first.  People are so clueless sometimes.  It's seems like it's always open season for rude/thoughtless comments toward expectant mothers.
  • That's terrible. Don't worry about it I have also gaine 11 pounds already- wait maybe 12. People are dumb
  • Screw her! I'm 15 weeks and have gained 18 pounds and love every last one of them!!

  • I feel your pain OP. When I was working and pg with my DS, a MALE co-worker asked how far along I was and I told him. His response was "Oh wow, when my wife was that far along, she was half your size!!" (Meaning smaller). Uh thanks jackass.

  • People suck! What a bitch! I got this one today from a coworker "you don't even look pregnant, you just look like you ate a lot" wow thanks! That's totally what I was hoping for, shut the hell up.

  • Ooh these replies are just what I needed! I gained 12 already and feel bad. Reading that all of you have gained more then what is "normal " helps :o)

    Laughing so hard....
  • Gahhh people suck! I take the control away from the people I work with but we are basically family! I just keep saying "I plan to get huge!" As I take like the fourth mini twix bars from our Halloween bowl (that's actually for clients!) they have all been super great luckily and considering there are three of us pregnant and 2 people have daughters who are pregnant everyone must have gotten the rules already! I won't hesitate to TP someone who pisses me off and blame it on the hormones!
  • Yesterday I was told, "At this rate, you're going to be as big as a house!"

Today I was told by a dietary employee that I was going to be cut off from eating lunch there. Her idea of a joke, I assume.

I have gained 18 pounds, but I was also underweight and not eating more than 500 calories a day before I got pregnant. I just don't have the patience to justify my weight gain to people with no manners.
