Breastmilk question..when to give baby pumped colostrum?

Hi, my baby is just over a month old. I have some colostrum that I pumped when he was only a few days old. We haven't introduced a bottle yet, and still plan to almost solely breastfeed. I was wondering however, when is the most beneficial time to give my LO the nutrient packed colostrum? He favored one side in the beginning, so I had to pump the other to keep the supply going. I have quite the stash of milk in the freezer...when should I introduce the milk? I'm nervous about using a bottle for the first time. Any other moms with this worry?

  • When it's been a few days since she pooped and is obviously in pain, I mix an oz of early milk with fresh milk. It gets her going pretty quickly

  • I've heard it's beneficial to save some colostrum for babys sick days but typically colostrum is for the early days in the babys life before your milk comes in. I EBF and I had to introduce a bottle at one week due to jaundice and my DS had no problem going back to the nipple. If I were you I would feed baby the stored milk but save the colostrum.
  • I just gave my 2.5 month old pumped early milk because he has a cold. Hoping it helps combat the virus.
