Belly button bleeding

I just went to change to my 13 day old daughter for her nighttime feeding and there was blood on the top half of her diaper (where we fold it over to not brush up against her umbilical cord stump) and also on the inside of her sleep sack. Both the top and bottom of her belly button appears to be bleeding. I dont think this is normal. Yesterday it looked like it could fall out at any moment - so I put her in the sleep sack and let it be.

What should I do? Is this normal?

I had that happen. I just waited till it fell off. It was really close at that point. Maybe another day or two.

DS stump fell off at 8 days and bled a little. It also smelt gross but now it's 100% fine

Yes no problem, it's just getting close to falling off, ds's did the same and even bleeds a little now (3weeks old) doctor says it's normal and he just has a tiny piece like a scab that hasn't fallen off yet and when it does it will heal and stop bleeding :-)

DD2's stump has been lightly bleeding for the past week. It finally fell off last night.

That happened to DS too. It bled a bit for at least four days before it fell off on day 14. It was bleeding (got on his clothes) at his 2 week check up and the pediatrician said that was pretty normal. I was so glad when that thing finally fell off!

It's totally normal for it to bleed. My baby's fell off last Thursday, the day the nurse came to visit, and she said that I should expect it to bleed a few times before it completely heals. She said just to make sure to wash it well now that we can do full immersion baths.

Mine bled some right before and after it fell off (day 8)

So glad you asked this question! I was about to post the same thing, my LO had some blood at the top of his diaper too and the bottom of his belly button stump is bleeding a little here and there. Glad to see it's normal!

DD's also bled before it fell off. It smelled awful too. I immediately called my mom freaked out and she assured me that it was normal.
