Chicago-ish ladies help: Girls night out?

Hi ladies!

I haven't been posting since deciding to be OAD (which, ever since, I've had more EWCM than I've ever had, grr), but I need some NSAIF tips and couldn't ask on Facebook, lol.

BFF and I are turning 35 next month (we're 3 days apart) & I'm looking to surprise her & go somewhere for a fun girls weekend. We're from metro Detroit & take trips to NYC once a year but have already gone like 3 times in the past year and a half and her funds are low. We've been to Chicago a few times when we were younger, but I don't really know the city well or what it's like these days.

What can you recommend? Shopping, bars, areas, etc.? We would like to NOT feel like we're the old ladies in the bar, which is what it feels like around here. For reference, we LOVE walking around NYC & shopping during the day, love accessories/hats/purses/scarves/sunglasses, and pubs & fun bars at night. Not adverse to a dance club if age appropriate.

Or, are there any other fun locations within 4-5 hours from Detroit that I'm not thinking of?

Thanks much for any ideas!

  • Thanks!!! :)

DH went on a brewery tour there recently for a bachelor party, which sounds like fun to me, but not sure if my friend would find it fun, lol.

So any thoughts are much appreciated!

  • We in a suburb outside of Milwaukee but go to Chicago at least a few times a year (especially around this time of year for CHRISTMAS SHOPPING .. and because it's only about an hour away from us!).  Chiwifey gave you some good recs.  Stay at a hotel on Michigan Ave for sure.  One of my favorites in the Hard Rock Hotel ;)  https://www.hardrockhotelchicago.com/photo-gallery/index.html.

  • We go to Chicago a couple times a year and it's always fun and everywhere we go to eat is always good. We like to shop on Michigan Ave, wander around Millenium Park and go to the Art Institute.

Last time we had lunch at Quartino, which was great! I also love Shaws.

  • I agree with @saraevh !! We always, always stay at the Hard Rock Hotel! It's an amazing hotel. We used to go every year at least once, but haven't been back since our anniversary in 2011 when I was pregnant with H. I want to go sometime in the next year!

We love the breakfast at Lou Mitchell's. Someone recommended it to us, and it's just a diner, but WOW! So yummy!

The China Grill in the HRH has great food also, and it's convenient. And the bar, Angels & Kings, in the hotel is fun too. And since you can charge everything to the room at the restaurant and the bar, it's easy (and not worrying about cash is nice too).

I'll think about some more and let you know! Email or text me to remind me in case I forget!
