Babies: 0 - 3 Months

18 ounces a day for a one month old?

My little girl was born at 8 pounds and she lost 10% of her weight. At her 2 week appt she regained her birth weight so she is back to 8 pounds.
She is averaging about 18 ounces a day since I am exclusively pumping.
I am wondering if that is enough for her? She is getting about 2-3 ounces every 3-4 hours a day. She sleeps 5 hours a night.
Does this all seem normal? I can't believe they have us waiting 6 weeks between appts!

  • If she is satisfied enough to eat every 3-4 hours and is sleeping well at night, I would say it is perfect for her. Every baby is different. Some require more and some require less.

Sound pretty similar to DS at that age. If she seems full and content then I wouldn't worry. Every baby is different. You can always call your pedi between appts if you have questions.

  • Per kellymom.com between 1 to 6 months, breastfed babies average between 19 to 30 oz.
