Breast Pump Coverage Excluded?

Has anyone been told their policy does not cover the breast pump due to an exemption (or perhaps grandfathering)? I was just wondering if anyone else has been told this. I have BC/BS and I know our company was grandfathered in on a lot of things, so much of the ACA doesn't apply to me because of that. But I was wondering if I should try calling back or if there's another route I should go through?

  • Also, to clarify, I was told even a manual wasn't covered.

  • It should be covered. i also have bc/bs and it only covered a manual pump. i would check with your human resources dept on this and bc/bs. i was able to get mine under the obama care act. just make sure you purchase yours thru an approved vendor.
  • Even though you both have the same insurance provider, you have different plans through your employers.

My insurance did Not cover one. However, I was able to pay for it through my flexible spending account. And we purchsed it at the hospital, for less tgan it was in stores. And I did get a manual one in the hospital, too.

  • I was told the exact same thing by my insurance company. My husband also called a couple months later and was also told the exact same thing. Kind of crummy. Oh well.

  • I was originally told the same thing, that it wasn't covered. But after my hubby did a little research for me, he found out that manual pumps are available under the obama care act for ALL new moms. Make sure that you relay this to bc/bs. The people that you are talking to may not be up to date on the new law. I had to make several calls, but eventually I got thru to to right person.
