I miss sleeping normally

This is me. Every. Single. Night. There's no such thing as comfortable anymore. I'm awake and tossing and turning all night. My poor DH is lucky if he gets even a corner of the bed to cling to. Other than pillows, anyone have tips on how to get comfortable enough at night to actually have a restful night of sleep?

I miss sleeping on my stomach, but I don't know how I've lived without my Snoogle. However, my LO makes it very clear even when I move into a certain way on my side that he doesn't like it and proceeds to kick for the next 30 min. Let's say I am very familiar with TV Land's early morning lineup!

  • ME TOO!!!!! I feel so badly because I wake my hubby up as it takes a monumental effort to flip myself and my Snoogle (man, I love that thing!) over to the other side!!!!! The funny thing is it doesn't get better once the LO is here! lol

Hahaha yes! I flip with all the pillows and not only does it wake up DH, it wakes me up and then it's even harder for me to get back to sleep. There has to be some secret trick out there to help us sleep, right?! I mean, we still have a couple months of this to go. Somethings gotta give!

  • I have my snoogle on one side and an ikea along the other side. Turning just myself is effort enough- impossible not to wake up in the process.

I agree- no such thing as comfortable anymore!!

I'm With You My Hips Are Really Bad I Get Maybe 45Mins Tops And Then Have To Roll To The Other side
  • I agree with you ladies! I have always been a stomach sleeper so it is really hard for me to sleep on my side. Generally I wake up with my hip hurting and then I wake my husband up in my effort to flip me and my pillows. I've actually given up sleeping in our bed...I've found that sleeping on our couch is more comfortable. It allows me to sleep with the back of the couch for support which takes some of the weight/pressure off of my hip. Good luck!

  • I couldn't even get to sleep til 4a this morning and that was after moving from my bed to the couch as to let my husband sleep! Even on the couch I had to have 2 pillows for my head, the body pillow for between my legs, a cushion behind my back and one supporting my belly. Absolutely ridiculous!

  • There are times my hips hurt so badly that I just lie on my back to relieve the pain. I tell myself, only a minute, it feels so good....and then I wake up panicked that I fell asleep on my back! And then I feel awful!

  • I just dread bedtime these days. Sleeping is miserable :((
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • I don't have a pregnancy pillow, but what I found is I have a pillow for my front and one for my back, so when I need to flip over there's already a pillow there waiting for me. It's much easier than trying to move the pillow too!

  • I also miss stomach sleeping.  After I had DS that was one of the best nights of sleep I can remember becasue I could actually sleep on my stomach.  I have a snooogle on one side and a couple of pillows on the other so when I need to turn, I don't have to turn the pillows too.

I am with you on feeling bad for DH - I think he has been spending more and more time on the couch at night because all my tossing and turning wake him up too much.  He is a very light sleeper so pretty much anything will wake him up.  He also calls my snoogle the great wall of china and was sad to see it come back out of the closet so early in this pregnancy.

  • I haven't slept well in two months or so. At first it was probably hormonal, now it's that plus discomfort. Sucks. Can't remember the last time I felt well rested.

If you have $140 to spare, invest in a memory foam topper! I had horrible nights of hip pain, back pain, etc. even tho I had my snoogle. I barely slept! After the advice of a friend who was pregnant, I bought a 4inch high density foam topper (on amazon, it's called DreamDNA), this combined with my snoogle, I don't toss and turn, I'm super comfortable, rested, and no more pain...I look forward to sleeping now! Husband loves it too. Sorry to sound like an infomercial, but I love my foam topper!

@sjsla I second that. I couldn't sleep at all until we got our memory foam topper. (Although we got an online deal for £30, so worth keeping an eye out for offers!)
I'm willing to try it! I think DH may not might dropping the extra money if it means he'll sleep better too.

  • Yes, I bought a body pillow thinking it would help me stay on my side, keep my hips and knees at the appropriate position since I was having such awful lower back pain.  But that didn't work and I think I wrestled with the stupid pillow all night each time I wanted to flip sides that it made things worse.  The same goes for the Snoogle, I'm not sure it's really what I need. I've been laying pushed over on my side with my top leg draped over so I'm partially on my belly. It's the only thing that keeps me from waking up each time I want to roll over to the other side and keeps my lower back from paralyzing me the next day!

  • I got new bedroom furniture with an icomfort mattress! Sooo wonderful! I've slept so much better and my hips don't hurt anymore. If I have to wake up to pee though, it's sometimes hard to fall back to sleep. Last night I coughed and felt like I was going to pee so I shot up to run to the bathroom! I was up for HOURS after that trying to get back to sleep!
  • This morning, DH looked over at my side of the bed, and I'm laying there, my legs everywhich way, pillows crammed everywhere, my cat tucked up under my armpit where she always winds up, and he says, "We're going to need a bigger bed."

  • Ok I was hesitant to say this bc no one else is even mentioning it but what about Tylenol pm? My dr. said if I am not sleeping it is ok to take a Tylenol pm. Not every night mind you and start with only a half but I used this method a few times from 36 to 38 weeks prego with my son. Good luck hope it gets better for you!
  • I ditto the memory foam topper - I've had one for years and after a few months of marriage, I convinced my husband that we needed one for our bed. Now, between that and my pillows, I sleep great! I still wake up in the middle of the night, but at least I can get comfortable most nights. We got our topper from overstock.com
  • I toss and turn all night then when I finally fall asleep the hubs starts tossing all over . Sigh.
