I know it is early, but I like to start my shopping early, obviously, but I also like to get opinions on what toys your kids liked at my kids age! She is 18 months now, will turn 2 in March. Any suggestions on gift ideas would be great!! Thanks!!
My son's birthday is next week, and Channukah is Nov. 28, so I've got my entire list made already! Here's what my kid is getting over the next 3 months (birthday/Channukah/Christmas)
*More toy trains. He's obsessed with them. We got him a train set last Channukah (14 months) and he's been playing with it ever since. *More balls. Another one of his favorite thing. I'm getting him a set of sensory balls since he's kind of taken over the dog balls for throwing. *wagon *anywhere chair * balance bike * rolling luggage (he always wants to be in charge of ours when we go on trips, so I'm getting him his own kid sized version) * books * potty seat and step stool (hey, I need 8 gifts for Channukah, he needs a potty seat...) * pajamas * more blocks
At 18 months my son was really into toy cars, balls, trains, blocks, and puzzles. (So you can see not a lot has changed!)
Liam received so many toys and cloths for his 1st Birthday this past weekend I have to re-think what he will get. I am thinking some Little People playsets, pj's, clothes, books, and some snow boots.
This is what I have so far, and I'm pretty much done. The only thing I might get black Friday shopping is a little table/chairs set if I can find one I like. Kitchen Trains Books Puzzles New bath toys Little People firetruck
-Chair with ottoman (for kids of course- it's brown so we'll jazz it up with a cute throw blanket)
-Identification bracelet (he got a chain for his 1st birthday from my parents and doesn't mess with it at all, so we figured he'd do fine with a bracelet)
DS will be getting a talking Elmo (can't remember the name exactly but I already bought it "> ), a wagon, and a membership to the zoo or one of the museums.

DS (18 months also) will be getting: a play kitchen and play food, Little Tikes picnic table (he might get this before Christmas because we could really use a little table for him), a Land of Nod chair, and some puzzles and books. I'm also making him a photo book of all our family so he can flip through it and point out Grandma, Grandad, Uncle so-and-so, etc. We'll do some smaller toys/art stuff in his stocking also, along with the standards: new toothbrush and toothpaste, socks, and some fruit!
From grandparents, I know that so far he's getting a drum and some musical instruments, a work bench, a cookie jar that teaches counting, and I'm sure clothes.

If this cookie jar has shape cookies with numbers on each one we have the same toy. DS got it last Christmas when he was six months old. At that time he just enjoyed pushing the light up nose because it would sing. Then, he would take all the shapes out and put them back in the top. There is a motion detector so this also makes it sing. Now, he is putting the cookie shapes in their respective holes... Except for the heart shape, this one he throws because apparently it is too difficult yet. Anyways, I highly recommend this toy for a wide age group.

I'm not sure what it is exactly - my MIL found it at CostCo. DS has some other shape sorting toys that he's had for a while and he's also now beginning to figure out where the shapes go. It's a nice change from just dumping them everywhere! :-)
DD is 21 months, and we got her a radio flyer trike. She loves to ride horses at my dad's house so from him she (along with her little brother) is getting a rocking horse.
A few more items we have picked up are twin dolls with a double stroller and some bath toys. She needs new sneakers and she loves her Twinkle Toes, so we will probably get her another pair.
As far as stocking stuffers go, I'm getting everything from the Dollar Tree: coloring books, stuffed animals, puzzles, books to read, etc.
@DawnLily I love that you are using the 4 gift rule. Last year I wanted to use that rule since it was DS2's first Christmas and I wanted DS1 to get used to not being the only one anymore but then we had DHs two sisters, BIL and our two nieces come plus my MIL so we only got the boys like two items a piece from us since they would get more from family. This year we are going to enforce something similar. They each will get a "big" item from Santa...this year DS1 will get a new bike and DS2 will either get a Cozy Coupe or kitchen. Then they will each get something they need, a book and an outfit. I really want my boys to learn that it's not about getting presents as well as not break our bank!!

A big family plays into our reasoning as well. DS has three sets of grandparents, three great grandparents and one great great grandma. As well as two uncles and one aunt. My big "want" item is a tool bench and I think his "need" will be new bedding and his first pillow. We used a similar method for his birthday. We had a toy/hope chest custom made. It's beautiful and he will be able to use it forever. We actually only spent $100 on it and its a great keepsake. I would recommend this if anyone is ever at a loss of what to get. We let everyone else buy the toys and clothes.

-A toy dragon that DS is obsessed with
