I've had Mirena since the end of May, and I had some moderate spotting for a couple of months. I still have slight spotting about every 5 weeks. It's usually accompanied with cramps and bloating, so I assume it's my period.
I'm thinking about having it removed as well, because of migraines. I've had recurring headaches since DS was born, and I'm on daily medication for it. The meds take care of those headaches, but I have been getting ocular migraines once or twice a month since having the Mirena inserted. I even had one last night while I was grocery shopping, which is scary since my vision gets all blurry. I'm actually thinking about calling my OB this week to discuss it.
I'm sorry your having issues with it also

I have the Mirena. I got it about 6 weeks pp. I went back a month later because I was having issues with the strings. Since July I've had spotting every 2 weeks or so. It's super light but still annoying. I want to say I read somewhere that 4-6 months after being interested is the worst for spotting...but I could have made that up. I don't love it but don't experience any other side effects.

You have my sympathies as I also get ocular migraines -- in fact one sent me back to the er after James was born (so bad that it included slurred speech and disorientation). My doc doesn't want me on ANY birth control, especially hormonal which should never be prescribed to people who have ocular migraines!
Before I got pregnant the Mirena was AWESOME. I had it for almost 5 years before I got it taken out. No periods, mood swings, cramps, nothing. I got it put in again 8 weeks PP and I'm calling my OB/GYN to get it removed. I'm having horrible/terrible cramping, my mood swings are horrendous, I'm spotting/bleeding so irregularly..and my night sweats are awful. I'm not sure what happened but I cannot live with the IUD PP. It's terrible for me! You have all my sorries. I hope you feel better soon!
Sorry you're dealing with that :-( I am lucky I guess... I have had no side effects. I had some spotting for a couple weeks after insertion but nothing for the past four months or so (have been ebfing, just started solids on Saturday.)

I hope you feel better too! It's so annoying because up until lately I didn't have any big complaints, but these last few days have made me feel like my body hates me (I'm sick on top of everything else, good stuff). Definitely going to call my dr this week and see how soon I can get an appointment. If it could eventually lead to no periods and at least lesser migraines, I would definitely think it's worth sticking it out for a couple more months. But we'll see.
Thank you You have actually reminded me that I needed to call. I talked with my DH and said I couldn't take it anymore. On top of it, I'm so nauseous which goes along with the severe cramping. Last time I got it out it was due to a different issue. It embedded into my uterus but it had been in for almost 5 years. Not too sure what I'll do about BC now because I really liked it in the past! I have the paraguard IUD which is hormone free. So far I like it. I still get a regular period with bad cramps for a day but not enough to bother me. I kind of prefer the period...we are done having kids and if I didn't have a regular period I would spend a fortune on pregnancy tests. Definitely talk to your doc about this. Also have you had a thorough blood panel since you had your baby? I highly recommend this. Just had one and discovered some thyroid problems. So headaches etc could also mean something else is going on.
