Jobs

Two Part Question Here:

Part 1 - If you are looking for a job in a specific town, city, part of a state, what are your go to sites or places to look for listings?

Part 2 - If a job was suggested to your SO by their friend, and they wouldn't qualify for it, but you would, would you talk to SO about you applying instead?

Re: Jobs

  • Indeed.com, largest job search site.  Careerbuilder, monster, etc. all push to Indeed.

Could you possibly apply under a maiden name or something, and then you could both apply?

  • It might depend on what type of jobs you are applying for. For my field I would check the State government website, local college/university websites and other non-profit companies directly.

If your SO doesn't have the qualifications for a position and you would I'd go for it.

  • I would look at specific company websites that I know are in that area and are in my field. Especially firms/companies that do business with my current company. And the big job search sites.

It would depend on the couple. How your DH would handle it. If he isn't planning on applying, ask if he thought it would be a good idea for you to apply. If he is applying, you probably know if he would handle the friendly competition well or if he would be upset/depressed about you getting the job over him.

  • I agree that I'd try the major job hunting websites as well as those pertinent to my field.  If my DH wouldn't qualify for a job but I would, I'd definitely apply for it.  I'd talk it over with him, but if he wasn't qualified enough to apply or had been turned down already, neither of us would have a problem with me going for it.
  • Do you mind sharing what you do? or what field you want to look in?

I like indeed as a starting point- it gathers postings from a lot of other websites and is pretty clean and easy to use.  Being in Higher Ed, I also look at sites that are specific to colleges/universities/etc.

Yes. H and I often swap jobs back and forth to each other since we're in similar fields, but with different job desires.
I currently am an accountant for a foster care/ adoption agency.  I would like to look into healthcare accounting as a have a MBA with a concentration in Healthcare, or a teaching/ training kind of position in a healthcare-esque organization.  I know, random right?  I do a lot of training on procedures and why we do things the way we do, so it has become a passion for me.

I have one company that I REALLY would love to work for, but I am unsure about my application.  I started one for a specific position, but was unable to finish due to issues in their website, so I went ahead and applied without a position attached.  I don't know how that looks to corporate recruiters and HR.

Sorry, I am just trying to figure this all out and be as proactive as possible, as me getting a good job will be a higher priority than DH getting a "good" job because of his circumstances at the moment.
