Chirstmas shopping

I have been following sales and am now almost done my christmas shopping for Logan. I like getting good deals, but hate being done so early. I find I usually end up buying more then I should because I get into the mood of giving and excitment more when the christmas music starts in the malls.  Anyone else like this?

  • I definitely haven't started, and have no desire to. Not before Halloween, it doesn't feel Christmas-y like. I don't even like starting until December 1, honestly.  That day puts me in the mood.

And I could never shop for my DD this early, she changes her mind too often on what she wants.

  • We did about 1/2 of our Christmas shopping the other day because my parents had our girls for the night.  I usually get done around mid to late November so that I don't have to brave any stores in December. Plus then I can do fun Christmas stuff like baking and crafts without constantly thinking about shopping!

  • I just started making Amazon wish lists for the kids and am monitoring the prices on things.  My only goal is to never shop at TRU, and if I get my lists and budget together early enough, I can get better deals at Amazon anyway

  • My boys' birthday is in early November- so I tend to go overboard for their birthday with things that I find early for Christmas but they turn into birthday gifts....like right now I have 5 gifts for them each- I am trying to only give them 2 for their birthday and keep the others for Christmas.
  • I shop all thru the year. but that usually means that if I see something that reminds me of someone I shop for then I go ahead and get it. I am having a hard time trying to find somewhere to hide all the stuff. I also write it down under each person so I know what I have/ know who I need to shop more for

I do this as well. We have a gift cupboard that i keep everything in and a list with the budget and how much I have spent.

  • I should try harder to donate to those less fortunate. We use to have a store locally that had a giving tree for the eldery right inside the main doors. You picked an ornament off the tree and it had the list of a few things the person needed (ie hat, mitts, slippers) and then at the checkout they put the items with the ornament together in a secure place for the seniors centre to pick everything up. It was so easy and nice.

  • I prefer to do most of my shopping early but I know I will do some in December as well.  As of now I have DD's wish lists done and I have purchased a few gifts for her and a few for other people.  Pretty soon I will work on our budget and figuring out what we will buy for everyone else.

  • I just started shopping this weekend for Christmas/DD's birthday. I really need to be a last minute shopper because if I plan ahead I go overboard and get anxious about wanting to give everyone their gifts early, lol.

  • Hiding gifts is getting harder and harder, so now I shop pretty close to each event. The kids' birthdays are spread evenly over the year (Mar, Jul, Nov). Once Lillian's birthday is over in Nov, I'll work on Christmas.

We bought m a Lego set. And that's about it. He has also seen it because it is in the trunk of are car. So terrible Santa right here!!!
Logan has been with me to buy all his presents so far... this is definitely the last year we can get away with that. Yesterday I told her the linkin logs were for his cousins... he told me he would share them. Here is hoping he forgets everything before christmas.

  • Do you do all the shopping or dh do some as well? I get excited and do most of it early and then in december dh gets upset because he didnt get to help. :(

  • I'll probably try and be done before the baby gets here, but honestly with online shopping, I'll probably still shop after he comes. DD just circled her first catalog for the year...she apparently wants one of everything from HearthSong.

Oh linkin logs I bet he would love those.
Someone else mentioned them on here a while back. Logan isn't really into playing blocks so I am hoping he will like these better. And I think they will be fun for ke to play with.  I did decide to also get mis cousins them for christmas. They are 3&5 year old siblings so hopefully they can share them.

  • I have both of their lists ready and I'm looking at prices to get the best deal.  I hope to be done by the beginning of December.

  • I usually finish early and then spend December buying for various charities because I'm still in a giving mood. I actually haven't done much shopping yet, but I'll probably be done well before Thanksgiving.

My DS's birthday is in Nov, so that usually has me buying early and getting ideas for christmas. I agree about channeling your buying toward those less fortunate. This year we are adopting a family instead of getting presents for the adults in the family. We are doing one gift exchange on xmas day, but the rest of our funds will go toward the adopted family and we've asked our parents/siblings to contribute to that rather than spend money on us. I will be coordinating it all and sending out the family's list to our family so they can decided if they want to contribute and coordinating shopping and delivering the goods. I think that will keep me busy and in the spirit of giving without over shopping for the kids. I feel that I do the same thing you are saying and I always tell myself I won't go overboard, but I do.

Our kids are the only grandkids for three sets of grandparents and three uncles, so they really get spoiled and I feel like we need to rein that in a bit because their expectations are getting wild. I want to balance it out with some more giving this year and make it a nice tradition. And I love shopping at the holidays, so I still get to do that!

/dead we just got this catalog too I love all the dorky toys.
If there is an art or science kit printed on a page, this child wants it. Not to mention all the cool swings and "pods" they have in there right now.
  • Yes, I cannot start too early or I over buy. So we are going the first week of December, taking a set amount of money and shopping all day. One day and that is it. We may stay in a hotel downtown and make an event of it.

Hanukkah is SOOO early this year---it "officially starts" before Thanksgiving.

So far I have 4 of her 8 gifts.

We do Christmas as well--but we will probably only have 2 or 3 gifts there--and some small things for her stocking.

Also my daughter can't see ANYTHING. I can't shop with her this year---she notices everything and will seriously ask every.day. for it. She is still asking for Mickey Mouse figurines from the Disney Store---she saw them in JULY!
