BTDT MoMs - solo play time

I am 26 weeks now, and it just occurred to me that these kids could probably go through many years without playing by themselves. I've been so elated that they have a built in buddy, but am now realizing it may be wise to give each kid some "alone" play time.  I had already talked about my sister taking one or the other so each could have alone mommy and daddy time (and auntie time) but that is a bit different.

Do any of you experienced MoMs schedule some alone play time?

(obviously not a concern when they are newborn, but later on)

Re: BTDT MoMs - solo play time

  • Well, ours are 7 and they have completly different personalities so they play by themselves a lot. They are interested in different things, they have different friends and are in different classes. Whenever they were babies and toddlers they were very buddy buddy it was a built in playmate and they didn't like being without the other. They would cry when the other was gone and they had their own names for each other. Whenever I would go anywhere when DH was home I would take one of the girls with me so we would have one on one time. Our younger twin always needs more mommy time than the other and is very attached to me. Our older one enjoys mommy time but really enjoys being with DH as well. You will just have to see when the time comes.

  • It is difficult to get one on one time with mine, especially because I have an older child as well. I recently separated them for their naps and an added bonus has been that since they are no longer waking each other up, I get a chunk of time with just one most afternoons.

When they get older, I do want to have outings with each individually on a more regular basis.

  • We have only done one outing with them separated and they were fine. We are going to try to do that more often once my husband is done with school in May.
