Working Out Check-in?

I don't think I've missed it the past few weeks, but perhaps I have? (My apologies, if so, the search won't allow me to limit results to just March 2014.)

Would anyone object to me restarting/starting a new one?

If there is any interest, maybe start with this info? (So I don't start two posts unnecessarily):
  • Last weeks goals/activities: what were your goals and how did you fair in meeting them?
  • What are your goals/activities planned for this week?
  • GTKY: Have you had to modify your workout wear? If so, how?

Again, just let me know if I'm missing it and I'll update this with a link!

Re: Working Out Check-in?

  • Can I ask a question? I've been walking, but it's starting to get pretty cold. I don't always have time to go to the gym. The past few winters I've done workout DVDs at home (P90X, Turbo Fire). Does anyone know of good pregnancy workout DVDs?

  • I think it's a great idea! I've been doing a prenatal water aerobics class and I can always use some extra motivation to get my butt there! I ordered two DVDs but haven't even opened them ;)

  • I've been dying to get some exercise, since I got my BFP. I'm pretty much over the nasty nausea phase that stopped me before but currently I feel like I don't have quite enough energy for physical exertion (I'm fine w/ regular activities). This also might have to do with the fact I'm 18w and still slightly under my pre pregnancy weight. I also have a fast metabolism and even though I eat good food ALL day long, I'm worried it won't be enough if I start exercising :( I was curious what you guys think or if you have had similar thoughts?
Btw I like to lap swim, granted I wouldn't go full on pre pregnancy workout but I still feel a little leery...

I unfortunately do not personally know of any good DVDs, but I was just at an appointment and the nurse recommended I get some, so I hope someone else has some suggestions. They really seem to be giving prenatal yoga the hard sell, so I'm going to see about finding a DVD or two to try (@babycaps: just saw you recommended one!). @crystaljoanna: open those DVDs you bought and give us a review!  ;)

Low intensity, low impact activities may be a good start (walking, easy yoga)--although if you don't have the energy for that, I'm not the one to say push yourself!

I do think it's worth considering the saying "abs are made in the kitchen"; it may apply here in the opposite direction. In the end, physical activities are a good addition to a weight loss plan, but (at most amateur levels!) calorie intake has a much greater influence over weight gain/loss than working out. I'm not a medical or fitness professional, so, grain of salt, and all that! (According to a few pregnancy fitness books I read, for some, working out can alleviate nausea, so you may even be able to gain weight by adding workouts to your routine!)

@babycaps: glad to hear from someone else doing squats! I read contradictory things about them (first bad, then good). After reading more, I kept them in my routine and I'm really glad I did! Kudos to you for all the walking and keeping up with your trainer!

  • @jbelle - will do! I'll make it my goal for tomorrow! I'm swimming tonight and I'll probably collapse if I tackle both tonight!

  • My goal last week was to run 20 miles...I made it 10.  This week goal has been lowered to 15 :)
