How to pick daycare or nanny?

We are 11 weeks along today and have heard we need to get started looking at our daycare and nanny options! Here's the problem, we have no idea where to start! We live in they city but both commute to the suburbs for work (Lake Forest and O'Hare area). None of our friends have little ones yet so we don't have any good references. What resources did you use during your search? Any recommendations? Thank you!
