Just a little tip

Went in for our second ultra sound today at 11w5d and saw our little one that was moving all over the place! We didn't think about it until after but ask your doctor if you can record it with your phone! The ultra sound pics just don't do it justice!

And here's our little one who has already stolen my heart!

  • My doctor was all up for me recording the heart beat hen my husband was caught in traffic. I think I'd ask next time :).
  • My husband recorded ours too :) The doctor said he could take a photo but he just recorded it on my phone instead. Awful quality but I love seeing LO wiggle around!!

  • I wonder why some of them prohibit recording.  It's not like the ultrasound is a movie and you're stealing it.  If I remember, I'm going to ask next time.
  • Same here. They said our phones shouldn't be on. Believe me, I was all about a cute video of that heartbeat!
  • Insurance liability

  • My dr office also doesn't let us record :((
  • Ours doesn't let you record either but print copies of all the pictures.
It's a medical procedure so I understand it.

It's a HIPAA violation. Recording an ultrasound is the same as taking a picture of a medical record.

  • My office has a no cell phone rule too but the sonographer was going to let me FaceTime with DH since he works out of town, like 10+ hours away OOT and can't be there for ultrasounds. He ended up being busy and couldn't take the call and luckily he'll be home for the a/s and hopefully the 3D/4D one at 30 weeks!

Ok, but if you're taking a picture of your own medical record... I just don't get it.  Nobody else is supposed to look at it unless you give them permission, I completely understand that part.  I just don't understand how it's a HIPAA violation to want a copy of your own ultrasound (or medical record).  You need to provide written permission for the hospital to share your information with people, but if you share it, I thought that's fine.

HIPAA.  Sensitive information floats around doctors offices, yo.

I am going to guess it's because it's a medical procedure.  When you are in the delivery room you cannot record them giving the epi or stitching up your taint because it becomes a liability.  Same here, they've got a camera up your who-ha, medical procedure.
It maybe different at private u/s places and/or birthing clinics?  We do everything in the hospital.

  • My ob office will record your ultrasounds on a dvd for five dollars and you can bring it back each time and they will add to it

  • great pic!

My office is another one that doesn't allow cell phones.  They're not sticklers about it in the waiting room or anything, but there is a big sign in the u/s room that says something like "all cell phones must be turned off"

  • You can usually get a copy of them moving around from records department, they just put it on a cd and off you go

The cd at my dr office was free. It's your records so of course you can get a copy of the images and video
