  • I'd definitly move it - when the baby is sleeping you wouldn't be able to use it without possibly waking the LO up  - plus all the power cords would be saftey hazard when the LO starts rolling or crawling.

  • My husband is a computer repair tech and the first thing he said even long before we got pregnant was that when we had a baby, the computer was coming out of that room.  His reason: Electromagnetic Radiation.  WiFi is the worst, you never want to have WiFi on unless needed.  Right when we heard I was pregnant, we turned it off. Read this article:

And here's an article about WiFi and a computer

If it's dangerous to adults think about how much more harmful it would be to a newborn.
  • Wow, I didn't know about the wifi thing, but we got one of these https://www.walmart.com/ip/Sauder-Computer-Armoire-Multiple-Finishes/15690338 a couple of weeks ago to move our computer into the living room and a filing cabinet that will go in our closet. It's not ideal, but I can tell you if you keep them together, it will be a safety issue as well as an annoyance since most of your computer time will coincide with nap time. We're having to rearrange a lot right now, so I totally get that it's overwhelming. It will all work out. Hang in there!

  • We're just getting rid of the desktop in the room we'll use as the nursery, which is technically "my" computer, but that was an easy choice because I never use it anyways.

Our issue is finding where to put the cat's food dishes and litter box now though since the office was "her room".  Seriously, she even puts her own toys away and drags them in and out of there when she wants to play.
  • We're moving the computer and my sewing table out. Don't know where to yet, but babies can be tough to get to sleep. Don't want the click-clack of keys, light from the monitor, whirring of the hard drive, or anything else disturbing baby during sleep, especially at first.

This was my only thought! We have our wifi on opposite side of the house then the nursery.

  • We built our office into the baby's closet. We have a small place and it just worked. The baby will just have a wardrobe instead. My DH is a huge computer geek so we got a nice swivel/rocker for the chair so he can be near the baby and his computer. And when not in use we can shut (and lock) the door and turn the chair around and have a beautiful nursery. Sometimes you have to work with what you have.

  • We're currently renovating, adding a master bedroom in our attic. Once it's finished, our bedroom will become an office and the baby will be sharing our room for the first year or so. And then we'll reassess.

If you have the space in your room, it's a pretty decent option, especially for the newborn stage, I hear.

  • Thanks for all the replies!  I definitely will not put the computer in the baby's room.  It might just have to be set up in the living room for now.  I'd like to put it in our room, but we have a huge dresser so it won't fit unless we get rid of the dresser.  My husband is a video game geek so having just laptops is not an option.
