Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Reflux

Hi ladies my lo is 6 wks old and has had relfux since he was 3 wks. I feel so desperate because he is not gaining much weight and wanted to ask you ladies with older babies when did it get better for your little one? Is there a certain formula that worked better for your baby? Is he/she reflux free?

Re: Reflux

  • My LO had reflux.  She is now almost 7 weeks old and doing great!  She also had the same struggle with weight!  I tried and tried and tried to exclusively breast feed, but it just didn't work (she had a recessed chin and my supply was not there).  Finally at 2 1/2 moths we ended up at children's hospital for a custom wedge (it was huge!).  It was the best appointment I have ever had, my entire life!  The PT not only fitted her for a wedge (measured her hips, legs, waste, etc.) but she also gave her formula for the first time.  She gave her Similac Sensitive.  She said to start there before trying the more specialty one (I think it starts with an N).  The Similac Sensitive worked fine for her.  She still has her spitty days, but what baby doesn't.  I promise it does get better, but I know how hard it is!  My daughter had a wedge in her crib, on the changing pads, and a playtime wedge.  She could NEVER be flat!  It was so hard!  Once she had the formula and the wedges, she was doing SO much better and has outgrown it!!  Good luck!  It does get better!

  • DS1 had severe reflux, spit up all day long, arched back, screaming, took an hour at each feeding, couldnt sleep flat, yada yada. Zantac stoppes working for him around 4 months and we moved on to Prevacid which was much better. His reflux improved somewhat after starting solids because they were heavier and stayed down better but it didn't completely go away until he was around a year old.

  • oops ... I just realized I put my daughter is now 7 weeks.  I meant to say 7 months.  Big difference!  :)

  • DS has reflux. He was hospitalized at 5 weeks for it because he was projectile vomiting blood. They started him on Pepcid and it seemed to help but he couldnt sleep on his back, he spit up a lot and was always uncomfortable.
At 8 weeks he could sleep in his crib without being uncomfortable. However, He was hospitalized a second time at 13 weeks and they changed his prescription to Prilosec - he is now 5 1/2 months and hasnt had any issues.
He gets breastmilk and Enfamil Gentlease. It does get better, I also got him a hazelwood necklace.
  • Dr. Browns also made a big difference for my daughter.
  • JTGochnour yeah when you said 7 weeks I was amazed lol. When did she start gaining weight?
