MIL Weirdness

I finally have my own bizarre tale of MIL weirdness!

TheBoy and I had opera tix yesterday afternoon, so his mom came to babysit.  They do this for us about 7 times/yr or so and I'm incredibly thankful.

I had fed E lunch before they got there and told his mom that she'd probably want a snack before we got home, so there were fruit cups or apple sauce pouches in the pantry and string cheese in the fridge.

We got home after the show, chatted with his parents a bit and then they left.   As we started to fix dinner, we discovered about 6 jars of stage 1-2 baby foods, a couple of containers of baby puffs, and an unopened box of rice cereal in the pantry, as well as half a jar of beef and mixed vegetable puree in the fridge.

Umm.... my kid is 15 months old.  You can feed her real food.

  • Haha. So she went out and bought baby food? Wow crazy! :)

  • That is strange..usually it's the other way around. People can't wait to give you kid the most grown up food they can find. It's kinda cute they did that though :)

Yeah, it is.  They always do mean well, even if the execution comes out kinda odd.

@jfresh - good ideas on how to use those up.

That's funny! I hate how people with grown children think they know everything because they "raised 3 kids" or what not. That's was like 30 years ago! Not only have things changed, but you probably don't remember a lot of the specifics....

ETA: Can you tell I just got back from a trip to the IL's? Haha

  • Too funny.  I visited my in-laws when DD was about 8 months.  DD was still having a diet of mostly breastmilk and was just sampling food.  I would mash up fruit, avocado for her and sometimes let her nibble on a piece of toast or something from my plate.  She never liked purées much.  MIL and FIL bought jarred baby foods a few times for her, even though I said she was not likely to eat it and didn't need it.  MIL also asked at least twice a day if she could get some juice for LO.  I guess they just want to do things the way that they did thing.
