Pumping exclusively

To the women who only pump exclusively, what do your nights look like?? We were both diagnosed with thrush and it's still waaay to painful to nurse so I've been feeding her a bottle then pumping right after. My husband works third shift so it's all me at night so as a result I don't get much sleep. I'm not sure what the point to this was. I guess just a middle of the night vent. But kudos to you women because I could notttt do it.

I EPed with my DS for a year.  My nights were crazy.  My husbad was home to help me, so it was nice.

I would pump and DH would give DS a bottle right before bed.  I'd get up when DS woke up (which was every 3 hours) the first time DS woke up, DH would get up with me and feed him and I'd pump.  3 hours later I'd get up, feed DS, and then pump.  It was crucial to pump every time I fed DS in order to keep my supply up.   I should say my DS worked a 11am-7:30pm shift so he was more than happy to help during the night since he got to sleep in a bit each day.

I didn't sleep much.  I was up for about 30 minutes with the pump only session when DH would feed DS and I was up for 60-90 minutes when I pumped and fed DS myself.  I got through it, it helped that I was a SAHM and could nap when DS napped.

It was and is important enough to me to mess with my sleep pattern a little bit, I didn't think twice about it, ever.

  • LO gets his last bottle before "bed" at 11 p,m. DH gives him this bottle so I can get an early start to bed, around 10 and I a.so pump before bed. Then I get up with LO around 2 and 5 whenever he wakes to eat. It takes about an hour by the time I do diaper change, bottle, pump. It's fine for now since Im still off work but once I go back I will be needing more help from DH.

  • Our twins are 3 weeks old and I EP as well and do night feedings solo. I know how tough it is! I wake when one of the girls wakes, give them each a bottle and then only pump for about 20 mins. I pump longer during the day, but at night I do what I have to do to get by And try to get back to sleep before they wake again. There's light at the end of the tunnel- hang in there! One day our LOs will be sleeping through the night!
  • In the beginning, it would take me an hour to change her, bottle feed, and then pump. It has gotten significantly easier since I dropped the night time pumping and LO has STTN since 6 weeks old. Now I pump right before I go to bed at around 9:30 and then at 5 am. It took me a week of soaked nursing pads and sore boobs but the sleep is so worth it!
  • LO gets her last bottle around 10/11 then I pump when she falls asleep.  She's been STTN so when she's up in the morning, I feed her then pump.  I was afraid if I didn't pump during the night, my supply would go down but it's adjusted and I pump approx 38 oz a day.  I have a freezer stash of about 10 days.
  • I've been trying to stay ahead of lo with my pumping. This means I get up more in MOTN. I get up around the time of her first feeding- usually 11 or midnight. Then again at 3or 4. Thankfully mu DH feeds her so I can pump then we both go back to bed.

  • I would say it depends on your supply. I have an oversupply and only need to pump 5 times to get enough for LO's 8 feedings (plus a little extra to freeze). I've been able to cancel all MOTN feedings. I pump at 10:30 before bed and then again at 5:30 which will be the start of my day once I return to work next week.

  • I ep'd for a year with Lucas and plan to this time as well. I have an amazing supply so I pump at 10:30 and then not again until 5:30. I get out around 10 oz total at 5:30. If I have to pump at 2, I do her bottle and then pump while catching up on trashy tv. I don't pump if she doesn't wake up.

  • I'm in the same boat =(.  With DD1, she was pretty good about sleeping 3 hours and waking, then sleeping another 3 hours, so I was up every three hours to feed and then pump.  Unfortunately with DD2, her sleep schedule is all over the place and she sleeps best in someone's arms.  Unfortunately with DH gone at night, those arms are mine.  I'm lucky to get 20 minutes to pump.  I'm not seeing much sleep in my future.  Hopefully she will have a better sleep schedule before I have to go back to work in two months =0.
