Trying to Get Pregnant

Short LP after Chemical Pregnancy?

Hi Ladies,

For those whom have had a chemical pregnancy (miscarriage is the term I use in real life but not sure how the length of pregnancy will affect the answers to this question).

I had a CP the cycle before last. I only had a 9 day luteal phase this cycle. Anyone else had a short LP after a CP/miscarriage?

Thanks

Re: Short LP after Chemical Pregnancy?

  • From my personal expireince my cycles after my mc/cps were different than my normal, some with longer LPs, some with shorter. I'm sure it varies from woman to woman. Sorry I'm not more help.

  • Just posted about others experiences with CP before seeing this. I am having a problem where my next cycle is taking a very long time to start. I felt like this cycle my normal "O" pains occurred pretty late, but when I did O late in my cycle AF still showed up at the same time. I hate how wacky it has gotten since the CP. Hoping things become a bit more normal for you.

Now just finalizing finance plans to cover the oop costs. Doctors office is in process of moving to a new building so there are no IVF start ups until March/April 2015.

  • I had one that started my period ON July 4th. I have no idea what happened in August, but my temp never changed, never got any positives on the many, many opk's I used and still ended up conceiving and getting a small bfp - I say that because somewhere between 6&7 wks, the heart stopped, but didn't find out until 10wks.

All that aside, I know my cycle was affected in some way.
  • It is normal to happen but if you haven't had a physical this year, I suggest getting one so you are cleared with everything else before starting to try again. I had a mc in April and started trying again at the end of June but my cycles were all over the place. I booked a physical and they didn't have anything for 6 weeks so I had to wait until the first week of October, in the meantime I had an annovulatory cycle for the first time in a long time. When I went in they diagnosed me with hypothyrodism. The dr said it's normal for that to occur with a pregnancy and she thinks I got it after I got pregnant in April. It causes annovulatory cycles and/or short LPs. This last cycle I ovulated but then had a 6 day LP so it seems to be getting worse and worse. The dr said that most of the time if the imbalance is caused by pregnancy, it will return to normal within a year but since we are ttc, we should not wait for it to adjust on its own so I was put on medication.

I am not saying this is what you have nor do I think you do, but I'm just saying you might want to make sure you don't have anything to be concerned about.  I wish I would have gone to the doctor sooner instead of wasting months ttc and then find out that I had something that was impeding my getting pregnant that could have been resolved sooner.

  • I had an 8 day LP this first cycle after my MC. I already had a shorter LP of 10 days before my MC so I'm hoping this was just a fluke!

  • Thanks for your answers. I had another friend tell me that she had short LPs for 2 cycles following her MC too. So I guess I'll just have to ride it out.

  • @vrj0522 I actually already had a complete thyroidectomy about 6 years ago. Right now I am a bit on the hyper side. But I guess everyone should get a physical sometime. Thanks for the advice.
