Success after IF

Success after Progesterone supplements

Just curious if anyone has had success with just progesterone supplements and after how many months? I'm on month three and feeling antsy. :(

  • Hmmm. Im not sure what your question is so Im going to try and clarify. Also Im on mobile and cant see your siggy. Are you wanting to know if progesterone supps help get you preggo? Do you have a hormone imbalance in which your dr perscribed pogesterone? When were you directed to take it? My RE had me on the supps a couple days after my IUI during a medicated cycle to help support lining and help maintain an early pregnancy. My GF takes it a couple of days after ovulation for same reason. She has been on it for the last 3 months and got KU this last time and on the 1st month with her DD1. Does that help?

  • Yes Ty. This is my third cycle on progesterone. I'm trying figure out, on average, how long it takes to get KU. I'm getting antsy. I've been trying for two years. Had a chemical in June. I'm also trying to figure out when I should request an RE. I guess maybe we'll try a couple of more cycles then request to move on to an RE. Thank you. :)

  • Since you had been trying on your own for 2 years without success I think you could move on to an RE ASAP. Maybe call and get an appt and then continue a progesterone cycle while you wait. An RE will perform tests, get you on a plan, and monitor you closely. GL with whatever you decide.

  • I agree with @imoverit. 1 year is the typical wait before consulting an RE. I don't see why progesterone only on an unmonitored cycle would do anything to get you KU. Especially if you have a diagnosis like PCOS, DOR, or blocked tubes. I'd say quit wasting your time and see an RE!

  • I agree with PPs about moving onto the RE. Two years is so hard and I think it's time to bring out the big guns. In regard to the progesterone support- my technical diagnosis was unexplained, but the only test that ever came back a little low was my p4 at 7dpo. My GYN prescribed Tamoxifen and I conceived on the 3rd month (ended in miscarriage). I moved to the RE and he changed my treatment protocol and didn't subscribe to the luteal phase diagnosis theory. I had two friends who did Prometrium only and did not have success. Both of them moved onto the RE. One was rediagnosed with unexplained IF and the other was diagnosed with DOR once the RE did the full round of tests.

Best of luck with your future cycles.

  • Thank you ladies. I'm going to talk to my OBGYN and see about getting moved to an RE. Unfortunately with my insurance I need a referral. But I don't think that'll be a problem. Thank you.
