High-Risk Pregnancy

Ultrasounds

I am worried about the amount of ultrasounds I'm getting.  I've been reading up on it, and it seems like some people don't think they're so safe.  I will have a total of 5 in my first trimester (3 with RE & 2 with OB).  Can you please share how many you've had and if you have any info on their safety?

Re: Ultrasounds

  • I had about 3 in my first tri...post conceiving...and then one a month during months 4-6, and then had 4 in month 7 and one since then. If I go another 2 weeks I will have another one at 36w. My doc has not expressed any concern and the ultrasounds are to make sure the babies are growing okay so I try to weigh the bad with the good.

  • I can't even count how many I've had. I'll try to tally it up. With the exception on my NT and AS, all mine have also been trans and abdominal so I guess that counts as 2 each time.

    - 2 at RE
    - 1 at MFM at 9 weeks
    - NT scan at 11 weeks
    - biweekly starting at 16 weeks though 25 weeks (plus 2 AS) - about 6 guess
    - weekly since 25 weeks - 5 so far with another Monday

So that totals about at least 15 at 30 weeks with weeklies set up until the end of my pregnancy.

D & L are here at 34 weeks 4 days by vaginal and breech delivery on 11/19/2013
Two healthy boys weighing 4 lbs 15 ozs and 4 lbs 5 ozs.  Only 6 days in the NICU and getting bigger, stronger and cuter every day!
  • Oh I lost count. I was getting 1 every wk from 16wks. I have a weak cervix so I was constantly being cked. From 7-21wks I got about 10. From then on I got one every 2wks unless they saw some change I would return the next wk I want to say a total of about 25 this pregnancy. When your high risk expect alot of sonograms. My dr was pregnant with twins and also got tons and went and had happen help girls. it use to worry me but I know the benefits put weight the risk.
  • I had 4 u/s. Three of them where in the last 4 weeks before I gave birth. However, I didn't get my first until 20 weeks. The reason I got so many in the last few weeks is because we were having a hard time feeling the baby move during my NSTs.
