Fell really hard today ***update***

edited October 2013 in April 2014 Moms
I know in my head Baby is probably fine, but it's still hard not to worry. My dog decided that a cat statue in someone's yard was alive and bolted for it while I was walking him. He is 90 lbs of muscle. I hit on soft grass boob first (ouch!!!), then hit my tummy pretty hard, and got the wind completely knocked out of me. DH feels awful because he kind of encouraged the dogs behavior. He had no idea that pooch would act that way! I just hope all is okay and don't feel like I can express this to DH since he feels terrible enough already. Anyone else a)have a stupid dog story or b)fallen hard and baby's been fine?

Update: I have an awesome midwife who happens to go to my church as well. She brought her Doppler with her and we snuck off to the nursing room and baby is just fine. Too squirmy to get a heart rate, but we definitely heard its heart beating :) thanks for the support girls. And my boob didn't fall off in the middle of the night either! Still hurts though....

  • I haven't, but I hope everything is ok. I don't know how to handle falls.

  • My 60 pound Aussie jumped on my stomach the other day when I was on the couch and I was worried but everything is fine. Baby is really cushioned in there so unless you get cramping, spotting etc. you'll be fine!! Try not to worry.

  • I hope you're okay! Baby has a lot of cushion, which is what the doctor assured me. About a month and a half ago we were actually dog sitting for a friend. They have a lab and we have a golden, both are pure muscle. As we turned to walk back in the house, they both took of running and collided with me. I flew into the air and landed right on my butt on one of the three concrete stones in our yard! I understand your pain.
  • Baby is really well protected in there; don't worry! If you weren't seriously injured, baby is almost certainly fine. If you're still worried, a lot of OBs would be willing to doppler baby for you to ease your mind.

I haven't fallen but I do have a giant dog who weighs 115lbs. For that reason, I walk him off leash and use an e-collar for control. I do however have many stupid dog stories. Just today we were driving past one of those inflated flippy tall things that they often have at car dealerships. My dog went just nuts barking and I practically jumped out of my skin since I was looking down texting on my phone and wasn't expecting it. Damn dog! He's like scooby doo- big and doofy and a big 'fraidy cat.

I'm sure you'll be just fine though. It's definitely a scare but you should be ok. Are you going to see your doc just in case?

  • I am sorry this happened to you. I know how scary it must be for you. You can rest easy knowing your little one is well protected inside of you. If you need to ease the anxiety though, I suggest you call your OB or MW and request a heartbeat check. :) it will help out the nervous pregnant brain to rest.

Not the same thing but I had a resident at work fall on my stomach during my last pregnancy. I was about 8 months along, and it was really more me trying to keep her from hitting the ground (not on my watch!) anyway baby was fine, I was fine. Dr threw a fit bc I didn't call right after to come in and get checked out. He was kicking a way as normal I knew he was fine too.
  • Not a fall- but a hard slam to the stomach story. My sister got in a car wreck when she was 5/6 months pregnant and the car was to totalled and air bag came out and everything. She was fine except hysterical bc worried about baby.. Went to hospital and baby was perfectly fine and healthy. He's a sweet 4 month old perfect boy now. They are really well protected in there!
  • oh no, i'm so sorry you fell!  doctors always available to check things out if you're feeling nervous...  it may be that a quick office visit is what you need to feel reassured of baby's health and safety.  i hope all is well!
  • Sorry to hear about your fall! It sounds like it was painful. I'm sure baby is fine, but if it was me I'd probably call my OB just to ease my mind.

  • I would call just in case. If nothing else it is a chance to go in and get an u/s or at least hear the Hb. Couldn't hurt.

  • Call your OB. This is the kind of thing they want to know about.

Which is to say, 99.999% everything is fine, it's early and baby is well padded, but they might want to give the heartbeat a listen with the doppler.

  • :( so sorry you fell. Ugh big dogs can be a pain sometimes. I have one too. Hope everything is okay. I second all of the above opinions.... Everything is probably good, but call your doctor just in case.

This. Better to be safe than sorry.

  • Thanks ladies. My midwife is awesome and brought her Doppler to church to check me. Baby is just fine!

  • It is truly amazing how our bodies are created to protect that little life growing inside! When I was pregnant with my first at 32 weeks I was hit by a car as I was walking in the parking lot of a grocery store. I was bruised pretty badly across my abdomen and upper thighs and had some contractions (I think from stress) but my son was perfectly fine!!! It was a terribly scary experience & I do believe The Lord was protecting us that night! Now my son is a healthy 21 month old that will be a big brother in April!!!

All that being said, if you ever fall or anything like that it's never going to hurt to go in for a check! It will help you at least get peace of mind!
  • When I was about six weeks, I was laying down and playing with the dog. I was stupidly squeaking and waving the toy right over my belly. Well, she pounced and landed hard right on my belly!! I immediately consulted Dr. Google and was relieved to find I was probably over reacting!! Glad everything is ok with your baby!!!
  • So glad u and baby r ok xx
