Yeast infections and incisions

I seem to keep getting a mild yeast infection along the line of my incision. I talked to my OB/GYN when it first happened, and she recommended I use Monistat. It made it go away for awhile but it keeps trying to creep back. I bathe every day and try to keep the area as dry as possible. Any suggestions for other methods to help prevent this? I'm afraid it is making the skin there prone in injury; while I was washing that area today, I lifted my belly and actually tore some of the skin along part of the incision. Im about five months PP.

Re: Yeast infections and incisions

  • I don't really have any tips, but I'm curious what the rash looks like.  i am 1 week pp and have a horrible rash all over my belly but even worse by the incision.  My OB doctor wasn't sure if it was a reaction to meds, the tape or a yeast infection.  He changed meds and gave me meds for the yeast.  The rash is drying up a little but is still pretty bad, especially by the incision.  It's all blistery and gross!!

Hmm its not blistery, Im trying to think how to describe it. It is itchy, it looks almost like what I would imagine a reaction to something like nickel would look like.

It kind of looks like that but just along the incision, not all over.

  • Hmm, that's sort of what mine looks like higher up on my belly and under my boobs.  But around and below my belly button is where it gets blistery.

  • Hmm maybe it is more severe there?

  • I had that and my OB said because I'm diabetic I'm more prone to it.  She prescribed some medicated powder for it and it cleared it up nicely.  6 1/2 later it still gets a little itchy in one spot but it goes away on it's own pretty quickly now.  When I first started getting it though I could have scratched myself open it itched so bad!
  • I agree. I am going to give her a call tomorrow and ask. The place where it tore looks okay today (I put antibiotic on it) but it is weird that it would happen. The incision was all sealed up and has been for a while so that's weird.

  • I had a yeast infection along my incision where I had a fold over of extra skin. It was angry red and was also wet with a sticky moisture. My OB was able to diagnose it right away from the smell. She prescribed a Nystatin powder that I put on three times a day and it cleared almost instantly. She said the yeast actually produces the moisture substance that allows it to continue to survive since they need a moist area to survive. Even though I tried to keep it dry it always seemed wet for me too. I would definitely see the doctor since it is treatable. My OB gave me a second prescription since she said they can come back pretty easily. I put the powder on once a day now preventively (5.5 months PP) because if I skip a day or two, it starts itching again and getting red.
