Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Help! Organic Foods

Hello,

I have an almost 11 month old and until recently I have been given her home made organic food. This month I started her on store bought organic food since she was no longer accepting mine (homemade). I tried everything to keep myself from buying store bought foods even if they were organic but she just would not eat what I made for her. I know they say 'eventually she will be hungry enough' but those people have not met my baby.

Now that I have switched to store bought, she is rejecting that too! I don't know what to do. Is this something all 11 month olds go through? Should I send apples juice so they can maybe mix it with her food (another Idea I did not want to try. Too much sugar IMO)

I really need some help here.

First time mom.. trying to be a good one.

  • Is she still on purees? Maybe she is ready to self feed.

She is. I honestly haven't thought about that. Could that really be a reason why she won't accept the organic goods?

Definitely. If you want to keep going the organic route, you could buy some organic veggies that were in her purees and steam them if they are hard/dice them so she can try to feed herself. I would say most babies that age are ready for finger foods.

  • Are you still on purees? I'm not sure what you mean by " store bought organic food." I started DD on purees at 6 months but she has been on pretty much all table foods since about 7.5 months and wants nothing to do with purees anymore (except for the occasional pouch of plum organics prunes she drinks when constipated). If she is refusing purees at 11 months I would highly suggest starting table foods with her. DD eats most of what we eat now and we did not do BLW. I'm just following her lead. I cook with less salt/sugar than I used to but she LOVES trying different flavors. She had shepherd's pie last night that was made with a little curry powder (sounds weird but it was really good actually). She ate a tons of veggies, beef, etc... and got to taste curry for the first time. I can't imagine still trying to give DD unseasoned purees even at 9.5 months... She would revolt! She also loves being able to feed herself, squish stuff between her fingers, mix different foods together, practice her pincer grasp, etc... She wouldn't be able to do any of that with purees

There are packaged organic foods sold in stores. I thought I was maybe making her foods in a bad way and her refusing was her only way of telling me.

Now I think her still being on purees (except her cheerios and bread) is definitely the problem.

    Thank you all <3:)

  • Like others said, it's not an issue of organic foods or not.  Your DD is most likely ready to self-feed.
DS started refusing the spoon & purees at 6.5 months, so we swtiched to self-feeding at that time.  You can definitely still feed your DD organic foods!  jUst start with soft, ripe fruits and overcooked/steamed veggies.

  • I agree that she's ready for finger foods.  However, it may also be a texture thing.  Homemade food is never as smooth as store bought.

  • Finger foods! Have fun!

Just avoid chokables and enjoy it. Our LO eats just about anything. Last night was cod, steamed broccoli, and brown rice and she's 9.5 months.

  • Feed her actual food, not purées.
  • I'd think it's time for real food. DD loves feeding herself and it's already getting harder to feed her purees unless she's actually hungry.
