Birth certificate Massachusetts ....blank entry for father's name ?

Hi, Does anyone know if I can leave the father's name blank on the certificate. Not unknown or n/a but just blank. Thanks

  • Well I live in Alabama but when my daughter was born, I left her father's name blank on the birth certificate. For him to have his name on it, he would have actually had to be there and sign it himself, which of course wasn't going to happen. So yes, if he's not there to sign for it, it will just be left blank

This is how it works in IL too.

  • As a Masshole, I can let you know that you can give a name, although it isnt signed, it will be noted. It makes things so much easier when you go for child support. Good luck! (This was an issue my best friend had when filing her baby's birth certificate!)
  • Well I don't need child support. I would just like to leave it blank and have nothing else in it. Not even "unknown" or "n/a".
So an empty one would  be my preference and no one really seems to ever have done that here in Massachusetts.
Apparently the state is really intend on having it say something?!?!
    But thanks
