Working Moms

Will I ever get used it? (bragging post)

So, this is my first LO and I always hear these stories of how difficult babies are and how hard it can be. And yes, there are some days when it's hard, but I swear, Maevis makes being a mom super easy most of the time.

She doesn't cry except for when she's tired/hungry/growing, she eats really well except for the Wonder Weeks, and she sleeps well too! For example, we'd just been playing for a while and she started to get a little fussy, so I knew she was getting tired. I moved her to her crib, put the paci in, laid her down....and within one minute, she was asleep. This was about 5 minutes ago, but this is a common thing for her. And she does pretty good about sleeping through the night and has been since 8 weeks. She's 13 weeks today.

But I don't think I'll ever get over just how easy she makes this.

[I understand parenting is not just tending to her needs, but about aiding development, etc - just these particular pieces are where she's amazing]

What will you never get used to about your LO?

  • Haha. I agree with the PP. I also think that kids have their easy and hard stages. My DD was not an easy newborn; she had colic. It sucked. But as a toddler? I hear people complain about the terrible twos and I feel lucky things have been relatively easy. Of course, now that I said it aloud I'm destined to have a headstrong threenager!

So get back to us when you have a toddler ... or a teenager for that matter. :D

  • DS is 4.5.  Overall, I could have said many of the same things.  I've always said that he has a very mellow temperment and was a pretty easy baby.  I've always counted myself as being very lucky.

At 4.5 - you WILL go through periods where you're like "WHERE did this child come from?".  Seriously- hitting 3 was like a light switch was flipped.

BUT even saying that - he's STILL overall a really good kid.  We run into the normal age developmentally appropriate stuff, but I still know he's a GOOD kid.  It's just his personality, his temperment.

So hopefully DD will be similar.

  • EastCoast, are you saying what I think you're saying? Did I miss an announcement? Both of mine were extremely easy infants. Like, crazy easy. Great sleepers, easy going temperaments, barely noticed them teething. My oldest is now 6, and I am overwhelmed most days - he is a handful, he is extremely energetic and stubborn and smart and manipulative. There have been nights that I've cried myself to sleep over yet another parent teacher conference where we've had to talk about his difficult behavior. My younger son has thus far been a near carbon copy of his big brother. So in short, parenthood is a series of stages - enjoy the easy ones and hope they keep coming that way, and remember during the harder times that its just another stage.

  • I am sooo happy for you. My son was easy too. Minus my exhaustion because of his eating schedule (I breastfed) he was GREAT! Congrats!! Enjoy!

  • I definitely appreciate the easy times now, I expect them to get harder as she ages. I feel (And my mom confirmed) I was a pretty easy, albeit stubborn, child, but a relatively good teenager, so I hope she takes after me.

If she takes after DH as she ages, then God help us. =P

  • Both my girls have been relatively easy.  Enjoy it!
  • DS has been a super night sleeper since 3 months. One night in late June, he slept through the night and has consistently done so ever since. The only exceptions have been when he's sick.

  • My DD was a super easy baby.  Some days I can't even believe how easy breezy maternity leave way.  By the time she was 9 week she was sleeping from 7p-7a, waking briefly to eat, and then she slept again until 10:30-11a!!  She didn't cry much and it only took me to put her in the moby to calm her right down.  We flew a few times when she was really little and she slept the entire time.  She was a dream!

That's not to say that she's a terror now, but it's much different.  She's more needy, she wants attention, she's testing boundaries, and oh yeah, that 12-hour sleeping routine?  Gone.  It took her an hour and a half tonight to fall asleep, and I hate to admit that is more normal than not.  But she's still a pretty easy going and laid-back almost-2-year old.  Enjoy these times, and hopefully your DD will continue to be an easy baby.

  • I was the world's easiest baby too. And a perpetually happy toddler.

When my younger brother was born, my mother never knew what hit her.

This is me. DD was a horrible, colicky newborn.  But from 3 months on she slept 9+ hours a night and now she's an easy-going toddler who eats everything, sleeps 12-13 hours a night, loves to socialize and speaks in full sentences.  She's awesome.

I will say I do not look forward to the newborn stage again though, based on my experience!  I very much disliked those 3 first months.  :-)

DD was the easiest baby ever and she's still really easy going as toddler, DS on the other hand not so much.
