High-Risk Pregnancy

Stopping Crinone, diagnosed SCH, and now lower back cramping: Should I be worried?

I'm new and have been looking for boards on various sites I could become a member of to find more support after the traumatic events of the past week. My name is Mary and I'm from Illinois. I had a miscarriage last year due to a blighted ovum and an earlier one at 6 weeks due to they aren't quite for sure what. I had low progesterone with those two previous pregnancies. I'm now expecting again at 14 wks and my OB just diagnosed me with a large SCH Wednesday so I've been put on bedrest  until October 30th.

She also sternly told me that I need to go off of the Crinone since it is not needed anymore. And this is what I'm most concerned about. I don't want another loss due to progesterone issues. They said my placenta and baby looked good at the ultrasound on Wednesday so I'm taking that as a positive sign. I've stopped Crinone but am still scared. I've also since I stopped the Crinone 36 hours ago roughly, been having brown spotting I think due to the SCH as well as low back cramps that seem to be all over. Do you think that since they said the placenta looked good, that I should worry a bit less about something going wrong with the progesterone levels?

Sorry for the long post, but I haven't gotten alot of feedback about this and I'm extremely nervous. Thanks for any reassure and advice icon_smile.gif

  • Sorry about your losses. They usually give the Crinone up until second tri because by that time the placenta kicks in and creates progesterone. Any time before then you need something to help support your pregnancy. I believe the cramping can either come from two places your body adjusting to no longer taking the progesterone or your sch. I would say its more your sch. Brown blood is old blood so it must have been lingering around and now decided to come down. I wouldnt worry unless it turns red or the cramping becomes painful. Try taking a Tylenol for the cramps. I know its hard but dont drive yourself nuts. :0) 14wks is a nice gestation. It only gets more fun in the 2nd tri.. enjoy every moment..

  • Thanks, you have made me feel better :). I am trying hard to keep control of my sanity and worrywartism.
  • Your welcome trust me ive been there.. I know the pregnant after a loss brain..No matter how many times they tell us everything is ok we hear something completely different and start to over analyze symptoms.
  • Crinone also has awful dark brown / black discharge or build up. Could it be that? I hated that stuff but it did what I needed for the first trimester.

  • The Crinone is still coming out some since I stopped but I can also tell that there is brown spotting as well. Before the hematoma was diagnosed and I had my major bleed, the crinone discharge was light pink usually in color. So I don't think it's just the Crinone.
