Hello CT moms and moms-to-be. I am just 6 weeks along, but already did some poking around about Yale-NH, which is the only place where my midwife will deliver. I have already left my OB-GYN while we were TTC, as I prefer a more natural approach. We really like our midwife now and really don't want to switch again, but delivering at Yale-NH sounds anything BUT pleasant.
According to their website, there are 3 operating/delivery suites (not sure what that implies), a 3 bed recovery room (soooo after I deliver I can't even rest because I'm sharing a room with 2 other women?), and a 5 bed triage area (no thanks). I am reacting so strongly because every hospital I've ever been to for a friend or sibling's delivery has been quite the opposite: private rooms, homey appearance, quiet atmosphere. The thought of trying to relax and deliver my baby naturally while another women is screaming on the other side of a curtain? I just can't picture it! In fact, I don't know how a hospital could even think that's okay! Maybe I'm nuts.
Can someone weigh in their experience at Yale-NH?? I'm panicking!
Re: Advice on Yale-New Haven Maternity Center... panicking badly!!!!! Help!
Thanks again for the feedback, ladies.
I had an appt with the midwife, who explained the process to me. She said that during recovery, yes, I may have a roommate. While it is rare and is unlikely to be an issue, if many women have delivered, I will indeed have a roommate. Yale can't promise me a private room. I don't feel great about the chance existing, but I do know it's unlikely. I really don't want to switch practices (since my practice only delivers at Yale), so I am going to pray for the best, and hope I'm not that rare first-time mom trying to recover in an uncomfortable situation! Sometimes I work myself up to be more nuts than is really necessary.
So just trying to relax and pray it will all go smoothly! My husband and I are going to set up a tour, as well.
Thanks, AllieMag24! Certainly sharing a room for a few hours I could stomach. I'm glad they were so gracious about it, too!
Has anyone else seen the Office episode where Pam has to share a recovery room, and breastfeeds the wrong baby? LOL~ That's what this invokes in my brain.
