Ethical dilemma

DH gets paid hourly. Last pay period the secretary put in 10 extra hours when she calculated his check. He deposited it and then told her. She then adjusted his pay and this pay period he was paid 10hrs less to offset her mistake.

What would you have done? Part of me would have wanted to keep the money, even though I know that's not the right thing to do. Most likely the mistake would not have been caught, but you never know... I'm proud of DH for doing the right thing, but extra money is always nice.

You should always turn it back in, otherwise you are a thief. Your husband did the right thing. It was human error on the secretaries part and it would not have been right to keep that money.

I agree that he was right to report it. It's the right thing to do, and also, most companies would question his integrity or terminate him if they found out later that he knew and didn't say anything.
