Come in and Answer my Questions

Hi all. I've been around lurking but not posting much.  I have a bunch of questions that I am just going to list together here and hope for some answers.  I don't think they've been asked before, but sorry if they have been.

1. DD always had an innie belly button, but in the past few weeks I've noticed it really starting to stick out when she stands up but when she lays down it seems to go back in (unless she's just eaten a big meal, then it will stay out even when laying down). Normal?

2. DD transitioned to the soft spout sippie cups with no problem, but they seem very similar to a bottle. I was hoping to get her to use a straw cup, but that hasn't worked so I was going to stick with these soft one until she can master the straw. Is it good to use these for a long period of time or should I be trying to switch her soon?

3. I've only been putting whole milk in the sippy, usually between 15-20 ounces per day.  Should I be trying to give her water in them and cut back on the milk?

4. What are you using to brush your LO's teeth now? How often do you do it?

ETA: 5. DD has no words. She was one on Oct 7. She babbles and squeals a ton and is very clearly able to let us know what she wants in other ways.  When she gets angry she yells what may be "no" but I may just be hearing what I want since I want her to be saying at least something. No words- normal?

And for reading all these, here's a bonus FFFC: Tomorrow is my 5th wedding anniversary. DH is coming out to visit for the weekend and it'll be the second time I've seen him the past 2 months.  MIL volunteered to watch DD for us so we can go dinner and a movie, but really we are getting a hotel room for some private time, since we're staying with the ILs and our room is right next to theirs. I can't wait!!

Re: Come in and Answer my Questions

  • 1. Herniated belly button?
    2. I'm also using mostly the soft spout. I don't see anything wrong with it!
    3. Don't cut back on the milk. I try to make sure they get 16 to 20 ounces a day, and I offer water when I think about it. They may only drink 5 ounces a day, but I'm not worried.
    4. A children's tooth brush with toddler paste at night. Pedi said I could brush in the morning too, but I haven't started that yet.

Go get it on with your man, girl! Bow chiccawow wow!!

  • Just wanted to pipe in and say Henry isn't saying any words yet. He just uses the same few syllables and is practicing different inflections now. I don't think it's anything to worry about.

  • Toothbrush and baby toothpaste, sometimes we brush and sometimes she just suck/chews the toothbrush. Babbles up a storm, thinks she's having big conversations, no real words, not worried.

  • 1. k had a herniated belly button since birth but it has mostly closed. Most resolve themselves by the time the child is 4 or 5 if not sooner. Bring it up at your next check up.

2 & 3. I read soft spot was better for their teeth, we have no plans to switch. For us, pedi advised no more than 20 oz dairy, but there is no minimum she must reach. I do give water in a sippy she can have all day long, but milk is for meals.

    4. Banana toothbrush and water.

    5. No real words but she is trying. We just keep pointing out objects and telling her what they are. I can tell she gets it. No worries.
  • I just wanted to say hi!!! How's your mom doing?? Happy anniversary!! Enjoy your DH time.
She came home from the hospital a week ago and things are finally starting to look up this week, hopefully home for good after 50 days total in the hospital.  She has a tracheostomy, but will have it removed in another month if all goes as planned.  I will be staying with her until she's recovered from that.  She is most looking forward to being able to hold DD which she hasn't really been able to do since shortly after her birth.

     Thanks for asking.
