Please excuse the long description. I am trying to give out as much information as possible. If anyone has any ideas, or has been through something similar, PLEASE help! Thank you for reading!
Okay so my 10 month old has this rash, and it's been there for about a week. Location - right hip. At first sight (it was smaller than in the pic, about half size) I thought it was diaper rash, so I put destin on it. 2 days later and it was still there and it looked a little darker in the center, so we thought maybe it was a bite. But we found no puncture to the skin. The next day it was even worse, small bumps around the edges, so we tried Hydrocortisone 1%. And I called his doctor and made an appointment for the next morning. Saturday we went in and saw the PNP. She ruled out diaper rash immediately and thought it was a bite due to the coloring. Rx antibiotics orally and benedryl with a follow up appointment Monday with his regular doctor. Monday he saw his doctor and she didn't think it was a bite at all, she thinks allergic reaction to something that touched his skin or sensitive skin. Rx 2 ointments and said to continue antibiotics and benedryl, with a follow up Wednesday. So today I take him in and there really has been no change. She seems stumped by it. She's putting him on Zyrtec also and he's going back on Monday for another follow up.
He's been just fine throughout the whole deal, I don't think he even knows it's there. No swelling, no itching. No fever, no loss of appetite, no out of ordinary fussiness, not even when I change his diaper or put ointment on it.
I haven't changed any of his regulars: diapers, wipes, soap, laundry soap, foods - I haven't even bought him new clothes, so if it's an allergic reaction I don't see why it would just now pop up. This area is typically always covered because he's always got a diaper and clothes on. He hasn't spent much time outside recently either.
I am so frustrated at this point. With 3 doctor visits in under a week, we've been very busy trying to make up time and I just plain feel bad for my little guy (although I really do believe it's bothering me more than it bothers him). Luckily, he's been a total champ at the doctor's office each time -Sits on my lap and waits in the lobby, plays in the room and waits for the doctor, takes his medicine great.
Does anyone have ANY ideas or suggestions at all?! I so appreciate all feedback. I figured since the doctor doesn't seem to know what it is (which is thoroughly irritating my husband) I would at least try to reach out to a larger audience for advice.
Thanks!!

Re: Rash - Help??
Looks a little like psoriasis too. If you or your H have psoriasis you should mention that to your doc.
My DD had a psoriasis outbreak when she was 7-8 months old. They gave me all sorts of creams over 4 months figuring it was just a rash, then yeast, them allergy, then something else. They finally did a biopsy and determined it was psoriasis. They never ASKED me if there was a family history because they didn't think that's what it was.
Good luck with the Lotrimin.

In anycase, happy news. If, by chance, you are cloth diapering LO, I'm wondering if it is worth stripping the diapers at this point (I happen to be stripping some myself at the moment, so this came to mind)? If you aren't cloth diapering then, it sounds like all is right as rain.
