We are going to do a couple small things for Christmas. I know my family is going to go nuts getting DD gifts. We may do a bigger item for her birthday.
With my birthday so close to Christmas (December 28th) my mom always did the bigger present on the bday because that was MYspecial day. I'll probably do the same thing since DS's bday is close to Christmas too (January 1st). This year, however, how big I get will be entirely on what I want as he will be too young to know what's going on. :P
If I had an older child I'd probably do the Santa gift thing mentioned above.
I don't think they will be too young to know what is going on at Christmas. DS is only 8 months old and can distinguish a new toy from an old one. He loves boxes, ribbon, and crinkley paper.
I know he won't understand the meaning behind it all; I know adults who still don't "get" it. But I do think at almost a year old our babies will pick up on the excitement and be able to participate on Christmas morning.

I think a big item will be for next Christmas. We're going to give 3 gifts--a big toy (activity table,) small toy (blocks/doll) and books. With our LOs having birthdays around Christmas, I don't want to go overboard. Plus, DD's grandparents being so close by, she'll have 4 Christmases to enjoy PS--this decaf life, I giggle every time I see your LO's picture! I love the mini meltdown!
