My LO is 5wks 3 days and I am thinking of introducing a pacifier because she likes to hang out in my nipple which is fine by me now but won't work when I go back to work at twelve weeks. Also with me heading back to work I need to intro bottles soon.

Is there any advantage or disadvantage to introducing one before the other or is it irrelevant? I may be completely overthinking it!!!

Re: into'ing paci and bottles

  • every baby is different, try a pacifier..... you may need to try a few different kinds before one works. She may take a while to take one at all. She may not want one at all!

Try a few different bottles too, but like the pp said, make sure you aren't around when they try.She might get confused, especially if  you are in the room and she can smell or see you.

  • Since my baby was gaining weight with no problem, the pedi recommended a paci after the first visit.  No nipple confusion and she's not using me just to soothe herself.  we (daddy) introduced her first bottle at 4 weeks with no issues.  However, she's only had 3 bottles ever so we need to become more consistent in order to get her ready for when I go back to work.

  • I was pumping right after delivery to help my milk come in and we introduced the paci in the hospital too bc he just loved to suck. At one week I bf, can give him a bottle and paci. I know every baby is different though.
