Success after IF

WWPAIFD?

Have a bit of dilemma here - Assuming M continues to get better today, we will be going OOT to my ILs for 2 nights.  M is 11 months; he's been self-feeding BLW-style food for a long time now. Refuses purees and spoons (except for yogurt).  Although he's generally a decent eater, he does go into phases of being super picky, esp when he's sick (like right now).

My question is, should I pack along some foods that I know he'll eat (even at his pickiest times), or should I just feed him whatever MIL cooks?  Normally, it's NBD to pack food along.  But, we are driving to a memorial service first (2-hr drive), then probably will be at the service for another 2 hours.  AFter that, it's another 1.5-hr drive to my ILs.  So we're talking about on the road for almost 6 hours.  I have ice packs and an ice box, but I don't think the ice box will fit in the car (we are bringing PnP, plus a playyard gate), so most likely the food will be in insulated bags with ice packs only.  pouches is not an option b/c I don't think M will eat those.

I don't know what MIL is making, but I don't want to call/email her to find out, as she's already busy with the memorial service, plus they have just sold their house so they are extremely busy sorting stuff and packing.

So WWPAIFD?  Go with the flow and give M whatever MIL makes, or be anal and pack foods along?

Re: WWPAIFD?

  • I would go with the flow for meals, but take some healthy snacks you know he will eat. Applesauce, grahams, Cheerios, things like that don't require refrigeration. And maybe take one cool pack with yogurt and maybe cheese sticks. I'm sure she will have some items you can cook for M if he absolutely won't eat a meal, like some eggs or plain noodles or toast for back ups.

  • I would pack some easy stand bys. You can always runout to a grocery store for yogurt or anything else you might want once you get there too.

I agree with the others - bring some snacks you know he will eat that don't need refrigeration and, if need be, you can go to the grocery store once you get to your IL's. Plus this might give you the opportunity to give M some new things to try :)

  • I too agree with everyone. I hope the poops have settled out. I also wouldn't be to worried if he's still not feeling 100% and isn't that interested in eating solids for the next few days. Hope its a good weekend.
  • Thanks all! I'm bringing some cheerios/puff mix, and a bit of fruit and yogurt. The rest will be food at ILs!  Turns out M cut a new tooth yesterday, so combined with his illness, that's probably why he has been so picky.  Hopefully he feels better now and is less picky!
