Cloth Diapering

How do you store your wipe solution?

I figured it'd be best to go with cloth wipes but I know people store their solution differently. How do you prefer to store yours? I'm not sure if I'm fond of keeping them stored wet so I'm considering getting like a cheap spray bottle from the dollar store or something and just wetting wipes as I go.

Also when changing do you spray the wipe directly (if you do it this way) and just wipe or do you spray baby's bottom?

If you have any pictures of your wipe setup that'd be great too! :)

Re: How do you store your wipe solution?

  • I store mine wet, but I do it in a travel wipes container, so it's maybe 5-10 at a time.  That way, I change it out every one to two days and they don't get musty.  I make up about 2 cups of solution ahead of time and store it in a glass vinegar bottle.  It has a narrow opening, so it's easy to pour over the wipes when I need to wet more.  My DS is super squirmy when I change him so, for me, it's best to have as much done ahead of time as possible.

  • I store mine dry and use plain water that I keep in a peri bottle.

  • I pre-moisten mine because I found that it was just working better for us, but when I did keep the solution separate I just used a cheapie spray bottle from Target.

  • Thank you! I think we'll try the spray bottle first then. If it becomes too much of an added step I'll try pre-moistening them in the morning or something like that.
  • Right now I'm just using water and keep the wet ones in a Prince Lionheart Wipes Warmer.  DS does so much better during changes with warm wipes.
  • I use a spray bottle from the dollar store with my solution and I spray the cloth wipe. I bought smaller spray bottles for the diaper bag and travelling.

  • Like others I keep my solution in a dollar store spray bottle, and wet the wipe :)

  • At home: wipes in prince lionheart wipes warmer. I use distilled water, tbs of coconut oil and 2 drops of tea tree oil. Soak wipes, roll them up into the warmer.

On the go: wipes kept dry. In a peri bottle I make a solution of water, squirt of Dr. Bronner's, squirt of grapeseed oil with vitamin E, and 1-2 drops of TTO. I douse the wipe with the solution then use it on baby.
  • Thanks everyone! Interesting to see whatever prefers doing. :)
  • I use both a peri bottle and a spray bottle (both with just water). I store the wipes dry, and use the peri bottle to wet them before wiping. I use the spray bottle if something is hard to get off, and I spray it right on her bottom. I also have a spray bottle for my diaper bag cause it doesn't spill, so I just spray the wipes when we're out and about. I got the spray bottles at CVS. The peri bottle is definitely quicker to get the wipes wet so I prefer it at home.

Anecdote: Bria's favorite game ever is knocking the bottles off the edge of the changing table while I'm changing her. She does it without fail!

  • I use a wipe warmer, but only put enough in for about a day so they don't get gross.
