Re: Thoughts on the name Blakely?

  • DH and I have a terrible time agreeing on girl names. ::sigh:: it's going to be a long process. It's a good thing we have 20+ weeks to keep brainstorming.

  • Don't like it. I don't think it will sound grown up when your LO is an adult.

I immediately thought of Blake Lively too, @jellysparkles! Haha. But it also sounds like an adverb to me, not a name.

  • My hair stylists name is Blaklee, and she's one of the sweetest people I know!
  • A friend of mine just named her daughter Blayklee Blair. I'm not a huge fan but to each their own.

    Not a fan at all.

What style names do you guys like? Have you used the baby name wizard or any other sites?
DH and I like different style names. I like names like Charlotte, Amelia, Olivia (he hates them) and boy/girl names (Avery is DD's name but it took me forever to come around to it - and we chose the -ie spelling). He likes names like Kenzie (gag) for girls.

ETA I'm getting ready to search baby names wizard, thank you.

  • I think about Blake Lively and I get confused. I'm sure people could get past that, though.

I agree with this. And for some reason I also think of Elizabeth Berkley in Showgirls. But I have no idea why...never even seen the movie. :(

  • There was a Blakely on The Bachelor that was terribly annoying. If it wasn't for her, I think I'd like the name. Of course, it only matters what you & your DH think!
  • Blakely is okay, but I wouldn't pick it for myself.  How about Berkeley, Brynn, or Blythe (which is our second choice girl name and I love so much)?

  • I like it. I think the middle name would depend on your last name too.
  • I don't think it sounds like a crazy name. You're not naming her after a fruit or a car, nor is it spelled oddly or too far out there. I think you have to go with what you like. There will always be nay-sayers. I always like to say the first and last name together to see how it sounds. It might sound lame, but I always think of names that catch my attention (in a good way) when I'm reviewing resumes.

  • I had a neighbor named Blaklee growing uo and and I've always loved it!! She's a doll!
  • Only if you like it but nms...but then again its your baby . If you love it go for it!
  • Why not Blake Lee? Then she can choose if she still wants to use both together when she's an adult.

  • I've always liked it! As a team we're more into traditional names, mostly because thinking forward to when she's an adult Blakely doesn't sound like a terribly serious businesswoman or senator, for instance, but I think the name itself is adorable. If it's your style, then totally go for it!
  • I really like the name Blakely, DH doesn't though. Sorry I can't think of any middle names for it.

I was going to suggest the names Blair , Blythe, or Britt.

I don't mind Blakely- especially if a daughter is being named after a family surname- but I can not stand strange spellings like Blayklee. Your friends choice of spelling reminds me of the way Claudia Kishi used to spell in The Babysitters Club.

  • I love Blakely. It's different without vein too out there IMO. I like Blakely Ann too or maybe.... Blakely Grace? Probably depends on last name too
  • I like it. I went to school with a girl named Blakley.
