Anyone else need a kickstand?

The last week or so has been rough sleep wise (I know, lucky me if this is just starting now). But anyway... this morning I realized what helps my back feel better and allows me to sleep - I have to throw my arms and a leg off the side of the bed and make a little "kick stand" to prop myself up and take the pressure off my back. Then I get about 15min of relative comfort until it's time to roll myself over.

Which, by the way, rolling over at this point makes me feel like a manatee. Pretty sure I look a little like this, complete with grunting sound effects:

  • I usually can get enough momentum going to roll myself off our bed and hope my feet hit the floor first.

  • I haven't been able to just roll over in ages. I have to pull myself into a sitting position and rotate my butt, then lie back down. Considering all the effort, I always just end up taking a pee break at the same time.

Yup.  That's my MO as well.  Hip gets sore, I shove myself upright (or more upright, since I sleep leaning against a mound of pillows), pivot if facing away from the edge, swing legs over, go to the bathroom, climb back in, lean on other side.

I've gotten really good at doing this half asleep so it's not hard to fall back asleep when I'm done.  (Good practice for night nursing, I'm hoping.)

  • I feel like a rotisserie chicken when I'm sleeping.

    This!!! Cracking up!!!

  • I slept out on the couch last night for this very reason, in a sitting up position.

I really want an adjustable bed like at the hospital. It would be so helpful to assist me in getting out and help keep acid reflex down. I am literally up every hour to pee and roll over. Also this week the side of me that is upwards facing seems to be going numb when I don't roll every hour. Sleep is so challenging :((

We took our mattress back to Mattress Firm in June after 2 years because it lost it's shape (it was guaranteed not to) and we traded it for a YuMe bed.  We decided to splurge on the adjustable bases because I have a pretty bad back normally, but then I thought, this will be GREAT for late night feedings too!  I didn't even think about the interim of being pregnant... this has by far been the BEST money we have ever spent.  I highly recommend the adjustable bed!! DO IT :)

The remotes also have a snore setting which is awesome because if DH starts sawing logs, I just have to push a little button and it raises his side up to make him stop.  I can't say enough.  I love it!!!

  • Getting my pillows adjusted just right is very difficult nowadays, because I use 4 or 5 and DH has a collection of 6 or so. We laugh because between the 2 of us there is increasingly less room for us in our own bed! Backstory, DH had a skiing accident and a car accident (both major) during our senior year of high school when we were first dating, this has left him with lifelong injuries to deal with, thus the excessive pillow collection. So rolling over, getting up to pee, etc. are all becoming perfected art forms. :)
