Infertility

Where to buy meds?

I was hoping you all could save me some time and suggest where to buy meds. I've always ordered from freedom fertility but now I'm going to be using Menopur and either Follistim or Gonal F (my choice I think). I haven't priced these last 2 at all and I'm sure some of you wonderful ladies have and I was hoping you'd share the good news (like you found them for $15 a vial! Ha!ha!). I will only buy from the U.S., no overseas ordering from me:-). TIA!

Re: Where to buy meds?

  • Ask your RE if they have any med coupons! Ours was able to give us a coupon for $300 off follistim. We used Walgreens because they had this program (New Life) where you save $100 for every $1000 spent. They shopped fast and everything was super organized, they labeled all syringes and everything.

  • Loading the player...
  • We used Walgreen specialty. They ship free even overnight orders. All needles and syringes are included too.

Walgreen will also enroll you in several discount programs and manage it for you. And some of your meds may be covered by insurance even if they don't cover fertility drugs. Like antibiotics, pain killers, and valium.

Dobbs pharmacy is good too. We had a last minute order from them too, but they charge for weekend orders.

If you gpharmacy that charges for your consumables, remember you can purchase those items under your HSA/FSA.D. And always have the pharmacy run them under your insurance too.

Most pharmacies you can contact by email too and ask for quotes.

I didn't have time to try to source everything from different pharmacies. But I know done give bigger discounts if you purchase all your meds from them -kinda like a bundle.

    Good luck!

  • Freedom Fertility pharmacy is supposed to be better priced for meds...also be sure to look for rebates or discounts like Menopur does the Heart+  savings program. You can save up to $500
Also you could consider buying from ivfmeds.com (based out of Europe) they are about 40% cheaper  than buying stateside but you have to be willing to buy from overseas. I have heard good things about this website though including returns.
Anyway there are also some med donation programs out of there but they are not doctor endorsed.
Keep your records 2.5 months til the end of the year. Write it off!

I was going to recommend checking here as well.

Also, you may not be interested if you aren't interested in overseas meds, but I bought through craigslist from some ladies who had leftover meds. (not trying to open a can of worms... I'm aware of what is legal and not, but if you need to save money...)

  • I use Mandell's Clinical Pharmacy,  They are based in NJ but are so much cheaper than any of the big name places.
  • I also use Mandell's but I also live in NJ so I liked knowing if need be I could also pick up.
  • I did my research today based on where you all told me to call. Found with menopur and follistim it was pretty equal at Alexander Twins and Walgreens specialty (gonal f was way expensive with everyone, so I won't be using that!). Freedom fertility was a few hundred more and you have to submit rebates. Alexander Twins Pharmacy was very nice and helpful, so I'll probably use them for everything. Thanks for the help!

I think that's a load of crap. They should not be able to do that. I don't even know if its legal. You have the option to buy your medications wherever you choose.

  • I really need to check into then for the next time around if need be. We are paying out of pocket for everything so any help on cheaper meds would be huge!!! I wasn't on a huge dose for the injections but altogether, meds were almost 3,000
  • ****SIGGY WARNING****

Are you OOP for everything?  Even if your treatments aren't covered, you may still want to check if your Rx plan will cover the drugs.  We are lucky enough to have coverage, but the meds still went through my separate Rx plan.  All of my injectibles were free and then Cigna Home Delivery has a specialty pharmacy and they filled everything.  Before I found this out, I was originally going through Mandell's Specialty pharmacy in NJ.  They ship overnight if necessary.

By the way ladies, this may be a ? for another board, but I saved my signature where it says "forums signature" under my profile but I don't see it showing up. It won't let me change my profile pic either....sorry this should be basic!
  • Hey J&D, I called each pharmacy with each cycle, to find best pricing. Like the others have said, my favorites were Alexander's Twin, FF, and Walgreen's. I will say that Walgreens got confused a lot. Chase the rebates, and be wary of minimums (for example, it might be $100 off a $1000 purchase, so group your meds accordingly!). If you are all OOP, contact the OOP meds director here on the Bump. You might be a good match with a meds donor! GL!

My office calls them in as well.  They have a list of different pharmacies they usually deal with (known to have the best deals) but you can always request a different one.

  • I get my gonal F through Freedom Fertility And my Femara through Walgreens in town. And HCG through Walgreens specialty Pharmacy. Both Freedom and Walgreens Spec. Will ship over night and are so great to work with! I am really impressed with Walgreens spec. Their prices blew everybody else out of the water when it came to HCG. And we are competley out of pocket too! So I shopped around. Good Luck!!!

  • @hels  another local girl! I learned this week there are a few of us on here. I enjoyed picking my meds up and shopping at Stanford. Are you going through ivf now? What clinic?

Three ectopic preganacies in left tube in 1999, 2003 and 2004. HSG in 2010 concluded left tube blockage. IUI with femara in 2012 BFN. IVF #1 June 2013, 20 retreived, 14 mature, 12 fertilized via ICSI, one transferred, four frozen, BFN.  FET in September 2013 - BFN:( FET #2 April 2014 - BFP!!!!
