One of my college professors had a similar experience with her daughter. A guy got her drunk, took her to his apartment, and raped her while she was incoherent. Unfortunately she didn't get medical care right away. She did eventually report it. No criminal charges resulted. The guy was staff at her college and was fired. He then sued her - his victim- for defamation. Unreal.

Please tell me he lost. Please.

As a mother, I know that consent is something I'll be teaching my son (as well as any future kids) from early on. Once he learns to talk, I will be teaching him to ask for hugs and kisses and that he can say no when someone asks him. We'll be continuing the conversation with age appropriate steps his whole life.
I wish that schools reinforced this type of education. I wish that sex education included conversations about consent, negotiating condom use, respect, etc. rather than shying away from these topics. I wish that movies and television addressed them. But in the end, I know I'm pretty much alone on this one. It's so sad that our society doesn't take responsibility for this type of behavior, even though the same case replays over and over again.
I read an article on CNN the other day saying that due to the national attention the story has received lately, the state prosecuter was planning to examine the case...hopefully that's true.

You are absolutely not alone.

Re: Maryville MO story?
I don't even have words... What do you do against an entire town? Absolutely heartbreaking.
