BTDT PP vision changes

For those btdt moms who wear glasses or contacts, did you experience vision change after your previous Children were born? How long did it take to stop changing after birth? (Or FTM's who have been through it this time and can already speak to their final outcome)

I know this is a normal thing. My vision changed in 2nd tri to the point my contacts no longer worked. I've sucked it up this entire time with my old glasses because I'm a Scrooge and didn't want to pay for more when I knew it would be changing again.

I want to make an apt for new glasses and contacts but if they may keep changing for a bit longer I don't want to have to do it twice. I'm almost 8 weeks pp.

Re: BTDT PP vision changes

  • My eye doctor say wait three months just to be safe but I just got new last week, he said I should be fine.

  • I got new glasses recently. My vision tanked during pregnancy and my new prescription is soooo much stronger. Doctor said I was ok.

But he also explained that people who get glasses later in life, like myself, tend to have more prescription changes than people who have had glasses since a young age.

  • How long have you had them V&G? I should have had them growing up but finally got them 3 years ago. I had 2 changes in the first year I had them...sounds like I'm in for many more.

I got them in college so maybe like 8-9 years? I was so sad, I had 20/20 vision until I got to college.

My vision has gotten so bad I can't even read stuff on the tv without them :( next year I'm getting prescription sunglasses because regular store ones don't cut it anymore.

Edit: I've had 4 prescription changes during this time.

  • AAAHHHHH good question. I need to get to the eye doc. I was told at my las appt by the ophthalmologist to wait until 8 weeks.
    Married DH <3 : 7/7/12; 3 fur babies (2 dogs and 1 cat)
DS born 9/3/13; DD born 7/22/15; LO due 5/28/18
FS (age 5) and FD (age 2) to become AS/AD very soon!

  • I had lasik a few years ago and I thought my vision was blurry when I was pregnant. I also saw spots. I went to get my eyes checked on Monday to renew my license and I was 20/20 again. I was 10 wks exactly pp at the time.

  • I am calling to make my appt soon. Dd is 8 weeks Monday...

Last time my prescription changed a lot so I want to be sure the majority of the hormones are over with.

I was due for my yearly exam in June. I bought new coach sunglasses this summer that I plan to get my prescription in so I have been anxiously waiting to get a new prescription!

Besides the change after DS, my eyes have been pretty steady for 5-7 years. I got glasses when I was 16, so 15 years ago...

  • My prescription never changed during or after either pregnancy, however my contacts never feel right while breast feeding. So I wear my glasses a lot now.

I'm a FTM, and I've found this so far as well (LO is 9 weeks). My contacts don't feel right, and my eyes feel very dry no matter how often I put in eye drops. Glad to know I'm not alone! I'm really hoping they go back to normal once I'm done BFing since I hate my glasses.

They will! Once I stopped BFing last time they felt normal again!

  • I haven't worn my contacts on 6 months. I gave up on them and was tired of dry painful eyes. I hate wearing glasses but my contact experience while pregnant was so bad I don't want to try them again.
