Toddlers: 24 Months+

Daycare waitlist question.

I originally posted this on my Multiples board.

DD is currently in a home daycare. I spoke with our provider this morning and she isn't sure she'll be able to take the twins. She has a family friend who is expecting twins right around me and she wants to bring her twins there. I understand.

So I did some calling around this morning and actually put all 3 girls on a waitlist at a center that is highly recommended, accepts our military subsidy and has a preschool curriculum for DD (she'll be over 3 1/2 when and if we switch). Of course they are more expensive then our home daycare which scares me, but I'm hoping the military subsidy will help with the extra cost. They are booked up through May 2014 so I put us on the waitlist and will go by and do a tour once the girls get here and I'm off bedrest.

If you've ever been on a waitlist at a center, did you get a call prior to the time they originally gave you?

TIA!

Re: Daycare waitlist question.

  • N/A for me personally but I know it happened for 2 friends. In both instances, a child left the daycare, opening up a space for the waitlist.

  • No, we got into one daycare right around the time they told us we would. The others we were on the list longer than they said. One place just called us like 3 months ago to see if we wanted to pus DS1 there - I got on the waiting list 4 years ago. lololol.

    Oh God!
    :-O

  • I think the only way you are going to get into the day care sooner is if someone leaves. LO was stuck in the 6w-6m room until around 10m because she had to wait for all the 4's to graduate & go to K, so that they can backfill and move kids up. But the two kids behind her moved on time. There tends to be a small shift in May when a lot of some kids are pulled out of a day care for the summer, and then a huge shift in Sept when all the big kids leave for K. The older the kids are the larger the ratio which is why sometimes it is easier to get a spot when your child turns 18m and the ratio can increase, since rooms are based upon ages.
