18 weeks - weight gain

Hi! I'm 18 weeks exactly today and I think I have gained about 10-11 lbs since the start of the pregnancy. Does this weight gain rate seem normal? I was not sure how much weight gain is expected in the second trimester. Thanks so much!!

Re: 18 weeks - weight gain

  • I've gained about 15 and Im gonna turn 19 weeks Tommorow my doctor doesn't seem concerned so I would ask him about it if it concerns you :)
(I'm trying to cut down the cravings it's hard) lol

  • If your doctor hasn't said anything about your weight, you're probably fine.  Plus it depends on how that weight was gained.  Is that 10 pounds of "eating for two" and anything you want?  Or is healthy eating with the average treats here and there?

  • That link was awesome, MadApple! I've only gained 4 pounds, so I was worrie that wasn't enough, but apparently I'm right on track for being slightly overweight to begin with. I've been eating more than usual, but not giving in to every urge.
  • Thanks so much! That link was beyond helpful! Appreciate the feedback :)

  • It's different for everyone. I was a pretty normal weight pre pregnancy and have yet to gain any weight. My dr isn't worried (yet)...so as long as your dr isn't worried don't worry. The tables/charts are just guidelines you have to remember. Everyone is different. You may be someone who gains a lot at the beginning and tapers off...I may gain a lot between now and the end.
  • I was within a normal range, but a little chubby before pregnancy (5'9" &166) but lost 14 pounds being super sick in months two and three. Now my energy is back and I'm eating normally, not "for two" but a burger or two most days and lots of fruit plus my normal food. I Haven't gained a pound back yet. At 20 weeks, the Dr says not to even think about it. I measured normal, even thought the belly hasn't really popped out yet, and the baby's weight was right on for his timeline.
  • I go on Monday for 18 wk appt (AND TO FINALLY SCHEDULE AS!)...I am curious to what I have gained but I "THINK" I am within range.. my scale at home never seems to be the same.

I wasn't too sick in the beginning but I was disgusted by food. At my 16 week appointment I had gained .5lbs. I was worried about this but the doctor said it was ok. I think 10lbs is a good number... it's better to gain it gradually than all at once. I'm worried I'll gain a bunch really fast.
