Angelcare mat

As we get closer to bringing our little guy home, I've been looking into baby monitors and the Angelcare products keep coming up. Have any of you ladies used them? Can I use the mat in a bassinet? There's no way I see myself letting him sleep in another room when we get home and after witnessing all those Brady's, I'm not taking any chances.

Re: Angelcare mat

  • We looked into them and asked her neo about it. He said he felt it was more for us and they don't work that well. He felt that it would be more of a headache and there is no way to guarantee they will work when you need them to.

  • We got the snuza and haven't used it once. She sleeps in our room currently and we will transition her to her crib in a few months. I looked in the angelcare mat and was convinced about its accuracy.
  • We LOVE LOVE LOVE our Angelcares. We got the ones with two pads (which REALLY cuts down on the false alarms -- we've maybe had two in 9 months):

There's no effing way any of us would have slept without them those first few weeks. And, then when DD2 started rolling and became a belly sleeper overnight, we were glad we had it then, too. It's going to be tough to wean OURSELVES from them. ;)

  • I bought the SafeToSleep mat and it's wonderful! It's so portable and it makes me feel so much more comfortable to have him on it where I can watch his breathscope and see his breath rate. It also tracks sleep and awake time. I absolutely love it!

This except we had one mat. We didn't have any false alarms until he started to squirm to the farthest corners of the
crib. We didn't have Brady problems but it still made me feel better.

We used it in the cosleeper next to our bed too. We got a piece of plywood and put it under the matress board though because it wasn't firm enough to work on the cloth.

  • We have an Angelcare but haven't used it since she slept in a rock n play for the first 6 months. We are just now transitioning to a pack n play in our bedroom. We also had a snuza but used it for one night and found it to be such a pain we gave it away. Anna had been off of oxygen for a month by the time we came home so I wasn't too worried, but I definitely wanted her right next to us so I could reach out and feel her for reassurance!

Our Fighter Anna born early 1/8/13 at 26 weeks
Hoping to bring home #3 due 9/9/15
  • This is super helpful! Thank you! Our guy is off oxygen and is at 36.4 weeks, but still Brady's 6-12 times in a 24 hour period. He self corrects 99% of the time but it's that one time every once and a while that scares the crap out of me.

We also put plywood under the mattress of both cribs -- it helps make the monitor able to pick up even slighter movement -- less likely to have false alarms.
