Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

No hcg/beta draws?

I'm a bit confused why my doctor hasn't been doing blood draws for hcg /beta. Is EVERYONES dr doing it?? Am I the only one not...?

Edit: spelling

Re: No hcg/beta draws?

  • Not sure if you mean before or after miscarriage. Mine were checked before inducing miscarriage to check that they were not progressing as normal. I came in to the office one week after the miscarriage for an ultrasound to make sure that everything had passed. They also did a HCG check and I was told I would have to have one every week until it was 0. My HGC was 85 at the one week check and 5 the next week. If the HCG doesn't drop, that could indicate that there is still tissue in the womb. Not sure why they haven't checked yours. It seems like a pretty standard process from what I've heard. I'd ask your doc.

  • My dr hasn't checked mine either, I also haven't had my post D&C appt yet. I've been taking HPTs once per week and if they're still positive I'll let my dr know at my follow up.

  • No everyone doesnt do them. Mine have never been checked. I was even told I didnt need to return for follow up unless my bleeding lasted more than 3 weeks after the d&c, of which it only lasted a couple days. Each doc is different and it probably depends some on the patient as well.
  • Mine didn't b/c it was obviously a m/mc.

Mine were only drawn twice to confirm the miscarriage (missed miscarriage confirmed in uterus). I had my post D&C appointment last week and was surprised that my doctor neither drew blood or examined me at all. She said based on my reported recovery, there was no need. It is certainly interesting how treatment varies so much doctor to doctor. Thanks MrsDeo for sharing that helpful post!

  • Mine weren't drawn either. I had a natural miscarriage last week with a follow up this past Friday. My doc said she didn't need to do them. My u/s came back all clear.

  • Oh ok- I had m/mc and d&c and just thought they'd draw until I was at zero... Sigh

I wish this had never happened
