First OB appt??

I am 7.5 weeks along right now and my first appointment isn't until November 4th. The doctors office said they don't like to see people until 10-12 weeks. I've noticed lots of people have already had ultrasound appointments and whatnot before their 10 week mark. Is anyone else having to wait so long? I'm so anxious to go! Also, does anyone know what I can expect for the first appointment?

  • In my limited experience they want you to wait so that when you have the ultrasound they/ you can see a heartbeat. With my first they didn't want to see me until 10-12 weeks either and my current office says 8-10

  • With DD I went at 6 weeks. My new office said 10 even with my very recent loss. I'm going to call and tell them that I need an earlier appoint or blood draws though, because since my miscarriage I just want to know if my betas are increasing

  • I'm having to wait until I'm 10 weeks along before I see the doctor. But usually, if you have a history of pregnancy difficulties, they bring you in sooner.

  • The office I work at and the office I go to schedule initial OB appts for 8-10 weeks, and you won't necessarily get an ultrasound until 20 weeks.

  • It all depends on the office and your history. If you have been told you can wait till 10 weeks and dont need an early U/S thats a good thing. THough i remember with my son  being disapointed that i didn't get to go in and see the baby at 8weeks - we did an elective U/S at a U/S location and saw him. This time i wish i didn't need the 8week U/S but after my loss in aug. its standard.

  • My first real appointment is next Thursday, I'll be 8+ weeks.
  • My office does a confirmation appointment at 5-6 weeks (which is kind of a waste IMO). Then an early u/s for dating and to confirm viability around 7/8 weeks along with the first prenatal appointment. That appointment involves an exam.

  • I actually did the test at my primary care doc's office (I was there for my regular check up -- surprise!)

My Ob/gyn is having me come in within a week to do a blood draw, and then again at week 10 (estimated) which is when I think they're doing the ultrasound. I think they wanted to get me in fast for the first one just to confirm the other test.

  • With my last pregnancy I had spottig issues from 5-8weeks so I had two early u/s done to make sure everything was ok. It was, dd was born 8/15/12. My OB generally doesn't schedule the first appointment until 8 weeks.

  • I go in Monday for mine. First time pregnant and I'm 6 weeks tomorrow. What should I expect at my first appt? My bf is going to take off work to come with me, should he wait?
  • Each practice differs. The early ultrasounds many of us are getting are due to bleeding concerns or due to a history of loss. It's standard to have your first appt anywhere from 7-12 weeks.
This.  I had my first at 6 weeks and my next at 8 weeks only because of my losses.  Before my losses, my doctor saw me around 7 - 8 weeks.

  • My first appointment isn't for another 4 weeks. I'll be about 9 weeks. Last time I was seen earlier, but I think they have more patients this time around. Waiting is hard!
  • My first appt isn't for 4 more weeks, but I'm going to try and get that changed because I can't imagine waiting that long after 2 miscarriages this year.

Nervous about calling, though! The front desk isn't super understanding of loss anxiety (though my doctor is awesome).

  • My appointment is next Tuesday and I'll probably be scheduled for an ultrasound too.  Primarily because of my Pre-E and HELLP Syndrome history in my first pregnancy so I'll be listed high risk.  I'll also need to have an exact due date set because I will be having another C-section this time around. They'll need an exact date to schedule the C-section.

With DS1 I only had 2 ultrasounds one around 20 weeks and other right before he arrived via C-section at 34 weeks.  After that situation I basically had monthly ultrasounds with DS2 just to keep an eye on things.  I'm sure it will be about the same this time around.
